Happy September!

Jan and I did end up hiking at Oil Creek yesterday. We never realized before that getting to a certain stream (which we always thought was Plum Dungeon Run from looking at the map) didn't mean that we had reached Plum Dungeon Waterfalls. There were a bunch of home schooled kids and their moms going to the waterfalls too and from them we came to find out that the falls was about a quarter mile farther. At the falls there was a bench to sit on. One of those stupid kinds of trail benches that you see so often in parks - way too high and not angled for comfort at all. Whoever builds these things must think everyone is super tall and all they want to do is lean forward. It's better (for me) to just sit on a log. The falls was pretty much dried up, though we could hear the water gurgling under the big rocks. Not much use taking pictures. The sun was too bright and the shadows in the woods too dark. Now that I know where the falls actually are I want to go back in a different season and maybe we'll be lucky enough to see water. It did get me interested in going to another falls I know of at Oil Creek called Pioneer Falls. It's always impressive. Maybe next trip we'll visit that one.

This is a picture I took in the evening when we took the dogs for a walk down back. I liked how the sun was angling across just the middle of the treetops.

We took the dogs over to the lake and Rainy somehow got into mud up to her wrists (?) and ankles (?). Looked like her feet were little shrunken black things. On the way home I was thinking about and devising the best way to get her into the bathroom and give her a bath. Before I've done it in the kitchen sink but that wasn't the best. I figured out I'd get out a plastic tub that I use for washing my feet on days when I wear sandals, and put that in the middle of the dry bathtub with about 5 inches of water in it. It worked perfectly and she wasn't very scared to be in it. So I learned a couple new things yesterday - where Plum Dungeon is, and how best to give Rainy a bath.

Today will be a good day to take her for a hike at Two Mile after I drop off Roswell at work - I'll be half way there already. That's the plan anyway.
