Oh, it felt so good yesterday to get back out for a hike in the woods again. That is my favorite form of outing/exercise. Candy and I went to Oil Creek and hiked up to the overlook bench on the southwest corner of the park. We were blessed with a sunny morning. After all those overcast days it was great. Here's some pix:
At the old Petroleum Center graveyard. For some reason a few of the graves have these railing/fence things around them.
A tree resting it's belly on a fence at the edge of the graveyard.
I always think this bridge looks neat.
Ice forming on the little stream.
Our destination - this view of Oil Creek far below and the bike trail bridge that goes over it. We climbed 350 feet up to get here. To the right and above the bridge you can see a bit of the railroad tracks (white with snow) that run through the valley.
My favorite bridge as seen on our return.
Old railroad bridge.
Freezing water on Oil Creek.
Chunks of ice floating down the creek.
Candy unaware.
Today is Chloe's birthday - 35! When she was here last she asked me about ukuleles and I gave her a nice Outdoor ukulele (dark blue) with a hard shell case that I hardly ever play. Afterwards I thought of another ukulele that I bet she'd like - a clear plastic one that I kept in my goat shed. So I got that ready to give her. When they come for Thanksgiving I'll make it a belated gift.
Today Jan and I are planning to go to Oil Creek again and explore Wildcat Hollow this time. Which I will enjoy! But I need to get focused when I get home later. Things to do, people to call, appointments to set up.
