I had my first music lesson in the Liberty Building yesterday. They have really done a nice job gutting and then fixing up the old building after the fire on the top floor a few years ago. Some pictures:

I guess this is all new because I don't remember any stairway like this before but it looks like they tried to recreate the old 1905 style of the original building.

My music lessons are in that far room to the left. Elizabeth, my teacher has an old grand piano that she's fixing up in the room that someday will be our practice piano. It will be very cool to play that. This stairway and the upper mezzanine are new too.

They did a nice job with the tilework. It makes me wonder what used to be in this area before. Probably just a cramped hallway and some offices with frosted windows in the doors. I never went back into this section before.

Now here is something I do remember - the old scary stairway that I used to take up to the dentist when I was a teenager. I think the walls were painted a dingy gray or dark green back then.

Looking down the old stairs to the basement. A confusing picture. I think that green on the wall to the right is the original color.

This is the original cramped elevator I remember but the gate attached to the door is gone now.

Jan and I are hiking today. Since I don't need to be back early any more for a Thursday music lesson (my music lesson is on Wednesday now) we might go farther away to someplace like Oil Creek. It's been a while since I've been there and I'm looking forward to it.
