These are the few stone slabs that I saved back for myself while I gave all the rest (probably 200 lbs worth) to Alison. I just couldn't let go of these, yet. I think I will make a project of taking pictures of them for a while. Maybe after that I will feel ready to say goodbye to them...
Biggs jasper. I love all the little scenes around the edge of this stone.
Yesterday Candy and I hiked 5.25 miles. We went to the spot where you can look down on Oil Creek from far above and see the foot bridge over Oil Creek. I'm amazed by people who can walk 8 miles, 10 miles or more. My favorite length to hike is about 3 to 4 miles or less. 5 miles seemed challenging and I was getting a blister. We did climb up 630 feet to get up to the top of the hill though. That's something. Afterwards we had lunch at Sam's in Titusville. Here's some pictures of oak galls, dead trees, green woods and such on our hike:
At the one mile mark there is a trail journal in a waterproof box that people write in.
An oak gall. A tiny little worm lives inside. There were a lot of these laying around on the ground yesterday. There were storms over the weekend and the high winds must have knocked them down.
A Red Spotted Newt. Always a thill to see one. We saw 2 yesterday.
Me on the bench at our destination. It is kind of a dumb bench. Very high and slanted so much you can't comfortably sit on it. Though you can see the view of the creek and bridge below very well from it.
The view.
Zoomed in cell phone picture of the bridge far below.
I liked the look of this dead wood on a tree we passed.
I was taking a picture of the holes in the tree but the camera ended up focusing on the farther tree and Candy leaning on her walking stick instead.
I liked this plant so I looked it up. Rattlesnake Hawkweed. There were lots of them in this sunny spot where the power line goes through the forest. Supposedly it likes to grow in the same kind of terrain where rattlesnakes live.
Sunny at the moment and cool - perfect for hiking. I think I will take Rainy for a little jaunt somewhere today. I need to get some groceries too...
