Katbyte asked the question of how do I cut out the little shapes of silver so I thought I would show the metal cutting saw I use. It is very fine.
The saw is laying on top of the piece of wood I use to support the metal as I cut it. I have a bucket hanging under it to catch the fine particles of silver that fall off as I am sawing (silver sawdust). On the right is a cylinder of wax that I use to lubricate the saw. I need to re-lubricate it after cutting about an inch of metal.
This is the saw laying on top of my sketch book with life sized design drawings.
Here is an excellent tutorial on how to use a jewelry saw to cut metal. It's actually pretty neat how basic the tools are that you need to make fabricated metal jewelry.
