kennerdell overlook in wet snow

Candy and I hiked today to one of our old favorite spots - the Kennerdell Overlook.

Stream that leads down to Dennison Run.

My feet and the thin snow on the ground.

Snowy path.

Candy.

Puddle with slushy snow on the surface.

Candy at the overlook bench.

Looking down on Kennerdell - you could barely see anything for the fog over the town.

The Allegheny River is under fog.

On the way back we came by way of "the hump" - an area of high ground that seems unrelated to the rest of the terrain.

The temps were just above freezing so the snow was very wet. My lower legs got soaked. Lesson learned - it's time to start wearing long johns and gaiters. It wasn't bad while I was out there - my knees just felt stiff and creaky with the cold and damp but when I got home I had a hard time getting warm again. Went to bed and slept till about 5. When I went out to check the chickens and tuck them in for the night Dot was in what seems to be her new place in the corner by the door and PB was near her. As I watched Summer walked over and got between them and settled down there. I had heard some squawking over the baby monitors before that so I imagine Dot had a hard time getting into the coop. I came in and told Dave about how Summer was protecting Dot and he said he was jealous - he wished he could be as good a person as Summer. I'm glad there is at least one chicken up to the challenge.
