oil creek autumn woods

Candy and I walked up on the hills over Oil Creek on the Gerard hiking trail this morning. The goal was to get to the Scenic View, about 2 1/2 miles out. It started out drizzling and overcast, then it got colder, windy but the sun came out.

Yellow leaves on the hill. I wanted to try out the camera on my new phone. Not the best but I think it will do to give the idea of things. I'm liking the phone more and more. One thing I like about it is the speaker. Loud enough to hear it in the car without needing extra speakers hooked up to hear music.

The powerline that you pass on the way. It's the oak trees' turn to be the stars of autumn color now.

Candy sitting at the scenic view.

View. You can see the swinging bridge over Oil Creek from here. We sat there for about 10 minutes, maybe less, and ate some peanuts and apple slices. I think I have mentioned this before but for some reason food tastes so much better outside - it really does. But it was cold and the wind started up. I couldn't take it anymore - had to get up - let's get going back!

Closeup of common mullein plants under the powerline - first year.

Second year in flower.

Mullein patch. Common mullein is one of my favorite plants.

Powerline again - the sun started breaking through.

Bridge over Oil Creek - Candy's car in sight. Oil Creek is high and muddy with all the rain we got recently.

Afterwards we headed over to Perkins and had coffee and lunch. A hot cup of coffee never felt or tasted so good.
