implantable loop recorder

Sep 14, 2017 16:12

I went to see the cardiologist today to talk about the episode of heart palpitations I had last month when we were coming back from seeing the eclipse. He wants me to see a specialist in Erie about implanting a loop recorder. He thinks I need it so they can figure out what exactly is happening when I have one of these episodes. If I have another ( Read more... )

Oh my...the part about rushing to the hospital before the episode is over to record it...hope that can be done. But if it determines you don't need the implant, it is surely worth it to hurry there! ❤️

Yes. I don't hope for another episode (ever) but if I have one that lasts long enough for me to get to the hospital in time to record it it might be a good thing.

How are you able to put a heart in your reply? I don't see an option for that.

That's an interesting piece of equipment. It might be tricky going to the hospital during an episode. How long did the last one last?

The last one was 4 hours and 15 minutes. I would hope I might be with someone who could drive me cause it makes me lightheaded while it is happening.

That was my first thought, that you don't want to endanger yourself and/or others in trying to get someplace that has equipment to record your episode. Maybe for now you could set up a system with family and friends so that there's always someone available to drive in the event of another episode. I also wonder if there's a "holter monitor" which has the capability to either transmit or record the necessary data. That might be an interim solution until the implant can be done.

Hopefully since it can be worn for up to 3 years it will catch what is going on (eventually) and we can finally know what kind of treatment would help.

Thanks.

Oh yes, it's a neat tech advancement! I just heard about them at a conference this May. And the risks are very minimal, so I think it would make sense to do.

(can elaborate if you wish)

I almost wish I had opted to have it done before I went on vacation in the beginning part of October - then I would have it covered and wouldn't have to worry about trying to get to an ER if an episode happened - I could just sit it out, rest and be still. It does sound pretty simple and safe. It will be interesting to see how it communicates with the monitor that will be by my bedside.

Well, hope everything will be OK during the vacation then, and yes, that is what I've heard too, quite a minor procedure, minimal risks, etc.

This sounds like a good idea and much less intrusive than those big box recorder things.

Yes, I do think it will be the best way to find out what's going on. Not really looking forward to it though. :-) Too bad all this can't just go away I keep thinking.
