kennerdell tunnel - not so scary this time

May 23, 2016 21:23

The last time Candy and I biked through the Kennerdell tunnel it seemed very scary. We walked our bikes the .7 mile, instead of riding them and when we got to the far end it seemed to be getting darker instead of lighter. As we got closer to the mouth of the tunnel we found that it was the Mist Monster causing the darkness. It was a hot day and the cold air at the mouth of the tunnel was causing a fog to form making it darker and darker there by the moment. Anyway - this time none of that happened and we rode right through at a nice clip. I took the infrared camera - thought things might look interesting inside the tunnel with it - maybe different?

Moving along - taking photos as I rode the bike.

A waterfalls is coming out of the hillside right before the tunnel.

Arched brick ceiling.

This was later on the way back, as we were approaching the tunnel from the other side. You can see the little dot of black in the base of the hill that is the tunnel hole.

River bend - the village of Kennerdell is out of sight to the right.

Heading into the darkness, lit by the sun behind me.

Candy silhouette.

There are even some small stalactites starting to form.

Tunnel reflections in a big puddle.

This is a grassy spot down by the river where someone built a camping shed.

Passing through the mowed lawns of the village of Saint George.

When I got home I sat in the car for a moment and took a photo of this cardinal. For some reason a little of its red color got though the infrared filter.
