Sushi to Skiing

Friday at lunchtime I jumped into my car, headed west, and met up with Jenna, Les, and some of her grad school friends from UNCC for sushi. I haven’t had sushi since this past summer, and Sushi 101 in Charlotte was pretty good. It was so nice to put faces with the names of people Les has been mentioning for months…they are a great bunch. After dinner; Les, Jenna, and I went to Jenna’s for wine, cheese, and chocolate cake.  I savored the time with them. It is so rare for the three of us to just hang out and do absolutely nothing, it was fabulous.

Saturday I took out a bunch of stuff that has been stored in my car for the past two months home and then let my car run through the car wash…who can believe the mud and dirt wasn’t holding it together?! Then Mom, Dad, and my two grandmothers piled into the living room and we celebrated my 24th birthday. A little after ten that night, Jason made it to my parents.

Sunday morning Les, Jason, and I piled into his truck and went in search of breakfast on our way up the mountain. Then after lounging around at a friend’s cabin it was time to hit the slopes for fun. Brian was meeting us there and so while Les waited, Jason and I took a run. I was relieved to know that I still knew how to ski and found myself wondering where Jason was. He had gone flying by moments earlier…I thought he was just into skiing fast…as I reached the bottom of the slope I saw the abominable snowman picking himself up. It turns out he hadn’t been skiing since he was 12. Les had disappeared, presumably with Brian to ski. So, I took Jason with birds and stars spinning around his head onto the beginner slope. After seven or so runs down that slope, I spotted Les and Brian…fortunately, with our runs down the beginner slope Jason had gained better control of his skiis. I am so glad Les and Brian finally got to meet Jason! Gosh, I think my favorite part of the weekend was just the four of us piling into the ski lift. One of Jenna’s friends had mentioned that skiing in North Carolina is more of a social event than skiing out West…and hey, I’m fine with that!

Monday Jason and I went to Concord Mills to get his kayak. It is so pretty and I’m just itching to get mine! On the way back to Eastern NC we stopped at Chapel Hill and had dinner with his sister. Everyone cross your fingers and say a little prayer for her to get into grad school at ECU. The weekend was way fun!
