i have a half hour til i have to be at Blair for Symphonic Band rehearsal *sigh* so i may as well contribute something to what has recently been erica's not-so-live journal.
i was home this past weekend to see a concert on Friday and then my birthday was Sunday. the concert was... interesting. i enjoyed the actual performance a great deal. it was Michelle (playing acoustic) along with another guitarist who switched off between acoustic and electric, Teddy on bass, and a drummer. the general vibe was pretty mellow but they could still rock out on some songs (i.e. Empty Handed which totally kicked ass). then at the end when she came back on for an encore, a bit of drama started to ensue. i wont go into huge amounts of detail, but a girl who i know by name through the messageboards was there and was being rather annoying the whole time... Michelle certainly picked up on it, as she (and i) were right in the first few rows. so eventually Michelle had enough of the crap and singled the girl out in front of the whole audience and said something along the lines of "this girl goes on my messageboard and posts all of this stuff that's not true about me and my band, and she pretends like she knows me when she really doesnt *etc*.... and i'm getting tired of it, so if you'd like to leave, there's the door" (in more or less words). well at that point it became somewhat like a scene off of Springer (not that i watch that crap)... people began cheering (for Michelle)/booing (for this girl, whose name i wont mention). so then the security guards shone their flashlights on her and escorted her out. ironically, Michelle did Goodbye to You (solo acoustic) as the last song and kind of made a humorous little gesture that somewhat communicated 'goodbye to you, ___'. ha. and i got to meet up with some of the fellow MBMBers... good times.
could say much more about all of that but anyway... Saturday my mom took me shopping at night and i bought a couple random things... a cool silver ring that is somewhat hard to describe but it's fairly simple... i like things that are understated. anyway.. also got some black pants (yeah, even though its supposedly getting warmer.. but its all good) and a shirt and some other random stuff. didn't get that many actual things because my main present will actually be, at some point, a new guitar, which i will of course have to contribute toward. it will actually be more along the lines of half and half. the original plan was to get it around the time of 3/28 but my parents thought itd be better to take the time to check out more stuff instead of just buying the first thing i see that i like. good idea. so thatll probably happen around graduation time.
Sunday... went to the gym, went to Ritas afterwards, out to dinner to Red Lobster that night. it was a pretty good dinner i suppose, those i think the Alaskan snow crab (almost just typed crap isntead of crab.. whoops) was a little bit less that fresh. not that it was bad.. it just wasnt as good as it could be. and there was some little kid somewhere near us who was playing a Gameboy or something of the like, and apparently didn't think to turn down the volume or didnt realize that it may be annoying to others in the vicinity. *sigh* nothing like a birthday dinner with *beepbeepbeep* (or however one would verbalize the sounds that a Gameboy makes) constantly going nearby. so it goes. *stealing that from Vonnegut - Slaughterhouse 5*
ok so that was chronological.. now for the non-chronological. i forgot to say before... Friday when i was still here at school.... so nice outside. i got out early and went jogging/walking/etc and it put me in such a good mood... first day in a long time that actually felt like spring/summer or anything of the like. i wore shorts and i wasnt cold. it was great. i hope the nice weather gets here for good soon. its back to 50s-ish today... and was 30 this morning... which doesnt inspire me in the least bit to get up and go exercise.. which i need to do. and which i will do once it gets nice again. aldsjfaksdfjlkasjdfklj enough about that
i've discovered another really good artist... Sarah Harmer. i'd categorize her as folk/blues/pop/roots. rather difficult to categorize her. there are various different styles on the cd, which i like. if i ever get to make a record, the one thing i'd hate the most would be to have everything sound the same style-wise. but anyway. yeah.. really good stuff. not overproduced in the least bit. the whole cd was recorded in her house.. and throughout the course of it, she plays acoustic & electric guitar, bass, piano, wurlitzer, Juno (whatever that is), and drums.. pretty cool, no? her voice is really natural and pure and her songs are like stories, not the usual cathartic confessions (not that theres anything wrong with that). but it's nice to listen to songs that tell stories/paint pictures/etc. check out her site if you want (i'd recommend it):
http://www.sarahharmer.com and check out the songs there on the right (particularly the first 2). and theres a video for Almost in the audio/video section... Almost is a cool song.. i think it has a neat feel to it.. i dont know how to define it. if you have my SN, i linked to 2 songs in my profile.
hmm, i'd say more but its time to go. this post has been brought to you by the letters r n m o d a, in no particular order.
haha.
