Here is something that I bet happens at some point:
Josh turns to Santos and blurts, out of the blue, “I have PTSD.” It’s his attempt at a proper apology, for how he reduced Santos’ life to a series of demographic attributes. For working-poor background and brother who can barely read.
Josh is so used to offering up pieces of himself as bargaining chips, and here, he figures this one’s worth enough. See, they’ve got dirt on me too. You’re not the only one they can turn into labels.
Matt turns to him in genuine surprise - temporarily disarmed, because he likes Josh, he really does, but he wouldn’t have expected this intentional show of vulnerability. He knows it’s a calculated move on Josh’s part - how could it not be? - but he’s touched nonetheless, by of the rawness in Josh’s eyes and the clumsy, desperate nature of the appeal.
“Okay,” says Matt.
They talk about it. Josh talks about Rosslyn, words coming fast and jumbled out of his mouth. Matt traces the scar on Josh’s hand.
