Sometimes I just don't get it, man.

I saw Selah's hair had a snarl in it, so I asked her to bring me the detangling spray and the brush. I thoroughly soaked her hair with the detangler, and started gently brushing at just the ends of her hair. She immediately started trembling and said, "It hurtssssssss." Uh ...? Rachel's always been the household tenderhead, so this hypersensitivity is totally unexpected coming from Selah. I tell her, "But there aren't even any knots down here, baby. I'm not even pulling." She said, "It hurtssssss," and started whimpering, building up to cry. Not wanting to deal with that action, (once Selah gets going with some grief, it almost always lasts her a good half-hour), I stopped brushing immediately and told her to go, figuring I could do her hair later when hopefully she's feeling less testy.

Did she stop whimpering and gratefully go off to play? No. Where is she now, a whole twenty minutes later? Laying on her bed in her room, still making a noise like a sick blender, "Unnnnnnnn. Unnnnnnnn, hunh hunh hunh. Unnnnnnnnnnn;" it dies down and then starts back up. She's clearly clinging to this cry, probably feeling sorry for herself that I'm not responding to her angst. What the hell? I mean, we all just got going this morning, what happened already to turn her into a crankball?

Oooh, now it's taking on some real force. Fun fun fun.

parenting, selah, wtf, kids
