As it should be.

Turkey Day went swimmingly. It actually went far better than I might have expected. There were precisely the number of people who would comfortably fit in my house. The food was, quite predictably with Miss Java at the helm, amazing. We produced the projected offerings, plus some Maple Spiced Nuts and some devilled eggs. Nobody went hungry, that's for sure. Jimmy and my mom did mountains of dishes. I think we all did dishes. If my dear JavaJen hadn't brought her serving dishes, we would have been sunk. But it all came out delicious, and the dinner table conversation was cordial, if limited, ("Can't talk, eating!"). I was very pleased that my grandfather elected to join us.

Friday was nice. Henceforth the day after Thanksgiving shall be known as the Day of Pie. We spontaneously decided to make quiche ("Breakfast Pie") for brunch. There were Bloody Marys. The afternoon was mostly mellow, (I actually got to take a nap), with sprinklings here and there of Kid Insanity. Sonya arrived, there were coloring books and glasses of wine, and eventually, delightfully, Turkey Pot Pie. Then there was Big Trouble in Little China. Unfortunately I had to say good-night and head to bed, because I did have to work on Saturday. But I floated to bed feeling lucky indeed.

I was knocked out several times by how much everyone other than me put into this. Java cooked, Bryan wrangled, Jimmy cleaned, my mom did every bit of laundry in my entire house in between chopping veggies and washing dishes. My sister took the kids to the park on Thursday, Sonya played with them on Friday, and got a hotel room down here just so she could be here with us for a few hours ... I am so touched by all of it. Really.

I have the best friends in the world.
