Still have that pain in my side. Doctor can't see me today. Am taking lots of Advil, holding still whenever possible. Happily, it doesn't take as much Advil to be comfortable enough to read in bed as it does to actually sleep.
Last week, I finished
The Historian (by Elizabeth Kostova) and also
Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian. Very pleased with both of them. We had Greek food the other night, so I could pretend to myself that I was eating one of the meals mentioned in The Historian, something from Budapest or Istanbul or a small village in Eastern Europe. And Fran, I had stifado for the first time! I also had my first lamb shank, in some slightly sweet sauce scented of cinnamon. It was lovely and completely satisfied my literary mood.
I have two more of the Aubrey/Maturin series on request from the library. So much for my intention to read more non-fiction. But really, this is historical fiction, so it's almost non-fiction, right? I have certainly learned a lot about the Royal Navy already.
Now I'm reading
Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. Y'all should know how dearly I love him.
