Eduard went to elementary school in Paris. During his first year, a letter was sent home to ask if he would be going home for summer, winter or spring breaks, but the letter was always intercepted by his mother and she always told them "no". The principal of the school eventually came to the conclusion that Eduard was practically an orphan with no one really to care for him other than a rich benefactor (not that Eduard was particularly upset about this. It was this fact that made him the headmaster's favorite and was often given extra sweets.). Eduard never went home in all his years of schooling and he eventually went through two prestigious high schools with not much more contact than letters to Eileen and weekly updates to his father. As miserable as he may have been before, he was the type to adjust quickly and he soon made himself very comfortable in the warm heart of France.
