Over half-way there! As I continue to post these, I'm realizing just how long this really is....
Hopefully you all are enjoying reading it as much as I did though~ ^_^
<2011 ARASHI LIVE TOUR Beautiful World/ 9/3 (Sat), 4 (Sun) *Postponed to the 4th due to a typhoon on 9/2 (Fri)>
--This was the year of the earthquake. Due to that, this was a concert that tried to save electricity and water.
Matsumoto: This was also the year we started doing “Waku Waku Gakkou.” So that means… I see. This year, we started our tour in July. We started before the summer… and this Kokuritsu was in the middle.
Ninomiya: Yeah. We did “Waku Waku” at Toyko Dome. So our Tokyo concert was this one at Kokuritsu, right?
Aiba: Yeah. That’s what happened.
Sakurai: Yeah. And for the opening, we had the smoke come rising up from under the stage. For the dome concerts.
--For both days here, it was raining during both the opening and ending of the concerts.
Sakurai: Ah~, that… what was that, really? It was kind of weird.
Matsumoto: For these, we were supposed to enter from above the stage…no, wait. We couldn’t do it the first day (*due to the strong winds). There was a typhoon, right?
--Yes. Because of the typhoon, it got postponed by one day, and became Sept 3rd and 4th (instead of 2nd and 3rd).
Matsumoto: Yeah. The first day got postponed.
Ninomiya: Oh it did. That’s right.
Matsumoto: The second day actually became our first day. And that was the day we were filming too.
Aiba: (Watches the opening) Uwa…that’s a lot of rain. Everyone’s wearing raincoats.
Sakurai: Yeah. It started raining, right? And everyone had raincoats ready to go in their bag. And then they started putting their stuff underneath large vinyl umbrellas. I guess, by the 4th time around…everyone is getting used to Kokuritsu. They’re like, “Oh rain, ok. No problem.”
Ninomiya: Yeah. Nobody was freaking out over the rain (lol).
--Everyone’s preparations get more sophisticated over time (lol).
Sakurai: Yes, that’s really true.
Ninomiya: They were totally prepared for the rain.
Sakurai: That kinda moved me, a little. Seeing the fans also getting used to (being in Kokuritsu).
Ninomiya: Seriously. We hear that there’s never complaints (about the rain), right? We’re grateful for that. At this concert, it stopped raining during the 2nd song, right?
Sakurai: Yeah, the 2nd song.
--And then at the end it started raining again.
Matsumoto: Yeah, at the end it was just pouring. And we were again saying, “Today will be clear skies” … (lol)
--Aiba-san, you were saying this during the MC, that rain really creates a strange feeling of unity.
Aiba: Yeah. Somehow it leaves a lasting impression, being out in the rain together, doesn’t it?
Ninomiya: You don’t normally stand out in the rain for such a long time. Most people would give up, not surprisingly.
(All laugh)
--To not get wet in the rain, you’d move or do something. Normally.
Aiba: Yes, in your normal everyday life (lol).
Ninomiya: Right?
Matsumoto: So, we entered…from the center, right? The donut (*is what that stage is called).
Ninomiya: Yeah. Just like the first year.
Matsumoto: So, on the first day… (starts trying to explain, but then is surprised by the video) uwa, it’s raining so hard!
Other 4: Uwa…
Sakurai: Right up until then, it hadn’t been raining at all…
Matsumoto: Yeah, I remember. We were hidden in the center (on standby), and it started raining. I said, “Oh no…it’s started raining!” and then we…
Aiba: We all started getting really pumped up (lol).
Matsumoto: Yeah (lol). I remember that well.
Sakurai: But it stopped raining pretty soon.
--Yes, it stopped around the 2nd song.
Ninomiya: It came down really hard and then stopped suddenly.
Ohno: But, (the stage) was really slippery.
Ninomiya: Yeah.
[They start reminiscing while watching the 1st song, “Believe”]
Sakurai: Huh? Wasn’t it this Kokuritsu? During “Believe…” kukuku (laughing while remembering).
Aiba: Fuhaha (remembers)! Where was that?
Ninomiya: Was that at Kokuritsu?
Sakurai: Wasn’t it at Kokuritsu? Was it during “5x10?”
Matsumoto: Yeah, it was “5x10.” At “5x10…” the moving (stage) had a bit of trouble. So at the last minute, we weren’t able to dance on it…
Sakurai: Yeah. So we had to do “Believe” on the center stage, even though we hadn’t rehearsed it there before. So everyone walked there, and we started dancing the intro. At any rate, we hadn’t rehearsed (this situation) at all. So we were all dancing by intuition… (the choreography where they swing their arms in an X) and Nino, right?
Ninomiya: (Laughing) I was doing the opposite of everyone else…
Aiba: He was like a broken toy…
(All laugh)
Aiba: (The arm swinging) didn’t match the whole time.
Ninomiya: No…I was trying to match up with everyone. But it didn’t match up at all!
Sakurai: Kuhahahaha! Yeah… the front row was Nino and Satoshi-kun.
Ninomiya: Yeah. It was two rows, with 2 (Ohno, Ninomiya) and 3 (Matsumoto, Sakurai, Aiba).
Ohno: I started wondering if I was making the mistake, and by the end, I had no idea what was going on…
(All laugh)
Ninomiya: It was like, which one of us is messing up?
Aiba: (Laughing hard) I remember that really well!
--(lol) That was…the “Believe” during “5x10?”
Matsumoto: Yes. I think the one we took a video of was that one.
Sakurai: Was it? To me now, when I think “Doing ’Believe’ in the center of Kokuritsu,” the first thing that comes up in my search engine is “Nino.”
(All laugh)
Ninomiya: Yeah…I was off the whooooole time.
Ohno: You didn’t match up even once (lol).
Ninomiya: Not even once (with everyone). The whooole time.
(All laugh)
Aiba: If you wanted to match up (the arm swinging), you could’ve just done it twice in a row (lol). But you didn’t the whole time…
Ninomiya: It was like, “this way? Eh… this way?” the entire time. It was scary~!
Aiba: Did it feel like a long time (lol)?
Ninomiya: It was really long…super extremely long. It was really scary!
(All laugh)
[The video reaches that same “Believe,” the 2011 Kokuritsu version]
Sakurai: Ah! Look here…you’re doing it right!
Matsumoto: Fufu, he’s doing it fine (lol).
Ninomiya: I’m matching up fine here, right?
Sakurai: This is the “done right ‘Believe’!”
Ninomiya: Because there’s a “not done right ‘Believe’” that exists!
(All laugh)
Ninomiya: It’s only 1 year since (the not done right “Believe”)…I’ve improved!
--Really, everyone is precisely dancing all together!
Ninomiya: Right!
Aiba: Huh? Did we play kick the can at Kokuritsu?
Matsumoto: Yeah we did.
Aiba: We did, right? Which time was it?
Matsumoto: “Beautiful World.”
Aiba: That’s right!
Matsumoto: We started doing that way back at our arena concerts, so we tried doing it again after such a long time, but…(Kokuritsu) is too big, so it was hard to show what was going on (lol).
Aiba: It was a huge failure.
--It was the “kick the can from hell.”
Ninomiya: It seriously was like “hell.”
(All laugh)
Matsumoto: Also, that. We did the Mapping stuff this concert.
Ninomiya: Ah, the Mapping!
--You did Projection Mapping for “Mada Minu Sekai e.”
Matsumoto: This was…how many years ago? 3 years. We were already doing Mapping 3 years ago, that’s pretty early.
Sakurai: Also that… part where your head falls down (Aiba did magic where his head fell as part of the performance)?
Aiba, Matsumoto: Yeah, yeah.
--And you two (Ohno, Ninomiya) were chased by Kaibutsu-kun.
Ohno: Ah~, that’s right!
Ninomiya: That was scary. The…going down at a slope part (of the performance).
Matsumoto: Ah, the slider.
Ninomiya: Yeah, yeah.
Ohno: The last part (going from the Mapping to the intro of “Mada Minu Sekai e”), we had to change outfits really quickly.
Matsumoto: Yeah!
Ohno: And I got stuck (while changing fast). The zipper got stuck and wouldn’t open up… So then, Nino frantically pulled it open for me.
Ninomiya: Like RIP! (Pulled hard enough to break it)
Ohno: If he hadn’t have done that, it would have been really bad. We wouldn’t have made it.
(All laugh)
Matsumoto: So…in other words? You broke (the zipper)?
Ninomiya: Like, RIP! and it broke (lol).
Matsumoto: It broke? …so basically, you destroyed the stage outfit (lol).
Ninomiya: Yeah… (lol). But, if I hadn’t done it, we wouldn’t have made it, right?
Ohno: We wouldn’t have! Since right after that, we start dancing…
Sakurai: Then “Mada Minu Sekai e” starts, right?
Ohno: We really cut it close.
Matsumoto: Should we watch the video?
[So, everyone watches the video. During “morning light” they walk up the slope from the center path to the main stage]
Ninomiya: Here…I was just praying that I wouldn’t slip.
Matsumoto: This slope here.
Ninomiya: Yeah. If I slipped here, there’d be no way to recover from that, I thought…
Ohno: Yeah…it was close.
[They watch the Mapping that starts after that]
Ninomiya: I feel like Riida and I practiced this part a ton. We kept practicing the timing (tempo and consistency) of us walking.
Ohno: Yeah, we did.
Sakurai: Oh yeah, this part… you two really were practicing it a lot.
Ninomiya: Yeah…
Ohno: (Watches the video, and sees his own facial expression) Fufu…(lol).
Ninomiya: It sorta turned into a skit, almost (lol). But despite that, no one was really laughing at it…
(All laugh)
Ohno: Hahaha! We’re doing some strange acting (with the Kaibutsu-kun video)!
Ninomiya: No one was expecting it there, that’s why (lol). Yeah… only this part is a bit peculiar.
Ohno: (While laughing) but we’re doing a good job.
(All laugh)
Aiba: (About the trick with his head falling down) this was really heavy.
Ohno: That was a lot of work for you, Aiba-chan.
Aiba: (The trick setup) is clearly big…
Matsumoto: You’re ok, you’re ok!
Aiba: (Cheering himself on in the video) Hang in there, hang in there!
Ninomiya: What a magician (lol).
Sakurai: We’re doing all kinds of stuff.
Ninomiya: Even down to when exactly we come out on stage, right?
Ohno: Yes, there were a lot of details. We kept counting (the tempo/timing).
[After the last part of the Mapping comes the blackout before “Mada Minu Sekai e”]
Ohno: Here! The outfit change here!
Aiba: (Cheering them on in the video) Hurry, hurry.
Ninomiya: Throw it away (the outfit you just took off).
Matsumoto: (Deeply) Looking back at it like this, it feels like a long time, but we’re working as fast as we can.
Sakurai: That’s true (lol).
Aiba: When we were actually experiencing it, it didn’t feel long at all.
Matsumoto: For me personally… I guess it has to be “Shake it!” I mean…from this year on, I’ve always done “Shake it!” at Kokuritsu!
(All laugh)
Sakurai: Seriously? So you mean, 3 years in a row?!
Aiba: Really?!
Ninomiya, Ohno: It’s the Legendary She-ke (lol).
Matsumoto: Ever since I did “Shake it!” that’s the only song that gets requested!
Sakurai: You’re right…it’s true.
Aiba: 3 years in a row…really.
Ninomiya: They must…seriously like it.
Ohno: Amazing (lol).
Sakurai: Well…what now? Next we’ll have to start doing a “Shake it!” orchestra version or something.
(All laugh)
Ninomiya: (Watching the video) Riida is a bit chubby…
Ohno: Yeah. (Around this time) I was getting a little fat, right? I think.
Ninomiya: Um…that’s not a memory about Kokuritsu.
Aiba: It’s a memory about your physical condition.
Ninomiya: This was the year you started getting fat, was it.
(All laugh)
Matsumoto: (lol) That’s right. So then at the end of this year you went on a diet, right?
Ohno: Yup, I lost weight.
Sakurai: You were eating nothing but tofu.
[In the video, “Shake it!” finally starts]
Sakurai: Here it is!
Ohno, Ninomiya: Here it is!
Matsumoto: Here it is…
Sakurai: Nice She-ke!
Ninomiya: The Legend! This is where the She-ke Legend starts.
Matsumoto: She-ke Legend… (lol).
Aiba: After this, right? We never thought that we’d also be dancing this too.
Ninomiya: We were talking about how hard (this dance) looked.
Sakurai: Also…it was 2011, and unlike with the other dome concerts, here we’re connected by the sky, right? Since we’re outside. I was thinking that, a little. What it means to do a concert outside, you know. That feeling of “being connected though the sky.”
Matsumoto: That might be one of the nice things about doing concerts outside. We’re singing here, but there’s that feeling that it’s not just the people that are there. Though of course we are singing for the people that are there. It’s like… before you realize it, you’re thinking of all kinds of things while you’re singing. 2011…this was our first concert after the earthquake, so…there were a lot of unique feelings/memories with this one.
Ninomiya: Yeah.
Aiba: We were happy to have been able to do a concert.
Sakurai: You’re really right. And everyone came out to that concert.
Ohno: Yeah. We had a lot of feelings attached to this one.
--You did “Waku Waku Gakkou.” And, you were also able to have a concert at Kokuritsu.
Sakurai: Yes. This time, we…had started off wondering what entertainment really meant, things like that. We really did have a lot of feelings with this one.
Matsumoto: I also really like this song (“Tooku Made”) that we did at the end.
Sakurai: MatsuJun, you really do like this one.
Aiba: Yeah, we even did it during the “LOVE” tour too (lol).
Matsumoto: Yup. I think…I’m really glad that this song was on the album called “Beautiful World.” So when we were doing “LOVE” afterwards, the feelings that I had at this time…somehow had left a big impression on me. It’s not like it’s the “answer” to the “LOVE” tour, but…I thought this would be a good song to do after the main set had finished. That’s because…I strongly remember singing this song with this album, this year. Also, having everyone draw pictures (*for the theme, “What does Beautiful World mean to you?”) left a big impression too.
Sakurai: Having everyone participate like that!
Aiba: We got a lot of responses.
