I was going to title it "Funk and stuff", but the image of Mad TV's
Funkenstein popped into my head.
It seems like the world, as it applies to my little view of it, is a bit "off" these days. In general, people seem to be in a funk. The current economy is partly to blame, I'm sure. It is on many people's minds. The recent onslaught of cold weather doesn't help. Plus now that we're moving into winter, the days are short on sunlight. All this and more has sort of permeated life. People get angry quicker or they might become apathetic. I don't like it. I don't personally feel like I'm in a big funk, so that is good. (Been better and been worse.)
This last Saturday was fun. We went to Chez Howard to see
seanjweb,
clafount, and Miss Jane. Jane has gotten bigger, which is good since we last saw her at about 3 weeks old. She's quite adorable and likes to make funny noises. We all gorged ourselves, drank some adult beverages (wine, beer, and
Apple Jacks.) We didn't have a ton of each, but we were all feeling it by the evening. It was a fun time.
Speaking of work crap, a video mail was sent out company-wide saying there were upcoming "restructuring" initiatives within the next few weeks. Translation: layoffs. I've heard 8 people were let go yesterday at the mothership. I only know one name so far and she was on two of my projects as support. We have a department-wide meeting this afternoon. Short department meetings scheduled for the very same day are never a good thing.
Also, I think I might be coming down with something. There are some nasty bugs going around. I woke up today very congested and feeling somewhat dehydrated. I suspect I might have had a minuscule fever this morning.
On the cat front, Agusta is a PITA! It is partly due to the diet the cats are on, but for some reason she likes to wake us up between 4:30 and 5:00 am. I'm sure all the parents out there are snickering, but to us DINKs, it isn't fun. I hope she outgrows it. We keep threatening to lock her in the "dungeon" (coal room) or the garage. She doesn't seem intimidated by that.
It also doesn't help that she has no fear of the other cats. She will often chase after Turtle, who could kick Gus' ass in a New York minute. I think that the two of them are sort of co-owning the "alpha" spot in the house now that Bean is gone. It should be Gwen's position, but she is a follower, not a leader.
