Not really a whinge ...

... but an observation. (Okay, maybe some whingeing below. But also a great link in the footnote, which you can skip to and avoid the whinge. Okay? Okay.)

My back has gotten to the state, somehow rapidly, in the last two weeks where I am only relieved of the severest* of pain if I am lying flat on my bed.

This is pretty much curtailing most of my activities. I am getting some time in to do WoW raiding for a few hours by drugging myself up a bit more than usual, but then I'm pretty much borked until a least 20 hours go by with me lying flat again. (And when I raid, I'm sitting in an Aeron chair, with my feet up, so I'm supported as well as can be when one is sitting upright. Still doesn't help that much. :/ )

That appointment with the neurosurgeon up at Dartmouth cannot come fast enough. (May 16th) I hope he takes me as a surgical candidate. I really, really don't want to have to start all over again with someone I don't know, and don't even have a referral to, down at some hospital in Boston.

I am reading my FL on LJ -- I'm rarely commenting, and for that I'm sorry. I'm pretty much like a blancmange right now.

* "severest of pain" would be about a 9 on the scale my doctor uses, where a 10 is when you're unconscious (9 is getting nauseated and/or vomiting). And yes, he has a chart you are supposed to point to. I once asked, "How many people point to 10?" And he laughed and said, "A lot. Most of them don't understand why that's funny."

In that vein, if you've never seen it before, GO NOW AND READ THIS HYPERBOLE AND A HALF'S BLOG POST WITH THE BEST "REDACTED" PAIN CHART EVER MADE ON EARTH. Really. OMG this woman is a genius.

spine, real life, i need a new back but it's on back order
