Found a random Italian grocery store near Pike Place the other day called
DiLaurenti.
Obsessed. There will never be enough time for grocery store combing. I could have stayed there for 2 hours, easy.
I ate a megalith hotdog from
Japon Dog. It was the Sukiyaki Beef Dog - a 8.5″ beef sausage with Japanese onions, caramelized onions, sukiyaki beef, wasabi mayo and sesame seeds. It was… pretty intense. That’s a lot of beef, know what I mean?
Amazing.
I needed to go up to Whidbey Island for a day in order to pick up a vehicle, so I stopped by my Uncle’s property and they let me forage some crazy-pretty garlic!
How awesome is that?! It’s growing like crazy, and they added a new garden patch just recently! It includes Japanese cucumber, butternut squash, onions, buckwheat (!!), a few different types of peppers and tomatoes, and soon-to-be sunflowers. It looks like nothing right now, but soon, it’s going to be in my mouth.
We made banh mi last week, and were too cheap to buy baguettes, so I made some ultra-cheaty ones (aka quicker than ~*artisan~*~ bread) that didn’t taste awful! I’m not hardcore enough to spring for these
Vietnamese baguettes because a) lazy b).
They weren’t as crispy as French baguettes, but they got the job done.
Recipe here. Crappy photos here:
I don’t have any pictures of the banh mi because I ate it immediately, but
this is pretty close to the recipe I use.
THAT’S ALL.
