Recently, I got the opportunity to crack my knuckles and create a web presence for one of Seattle’s primo performer-producers,
Boom Boom L’Roux.
This chick is all business and glamour, so creating a website that would capitalize on those traits (without going over the top into tacky territory) was going to be a fun challenge.
The front page is my favorite page to design. I haven’t built a blog-based website with a blog on the front page in years because I love the “magazine style” format. Why? Because I love comprehensive information. If I can have a biography, photo, upcoming event, and rich content in the same place without it looking cluttered - I’m all about it.
Since Boom Boom is a babe, I decided to put her right up top in a site-wide header featuring her name in a hand-written, ornate font. As a gal who has built her own success from the ground up, I liked the homemade touch with extremely elegant lettering because it fit her journey and represents her experience.
There is also an automatic slider that features images of Boom Boom L’Roux from performances and promotional shoots. Below it, a short biography gives new visitors the information they need to know what to expect and how to enjoy the website.
Boom Boom L’Roux’s signature dress is a vibrant purple, I wanted to be sure we included it as a motif throughout the site. As a producer, she delivers a monthly show at the Can Can, appropriately titled
Boom Boom L’Roux’s Late Night Revue, and it features some of the top talent from around the city - not to mention the country.
As a woman with many events, I wanted to make sure she had an event calendar that was not only easy to read, but powerful enough to make it quick & easy to add comprehensive event details.
You can see that she is a mega-saucy gal, so there’s a lot of sensitive content on her website that might not be appropriate for younger web adventurers. This is why we put a cookie-based age verifying function into every entry point on the site, as well as a “remember me” option.
Ms. L’Roux is a pretty busy lady, and between producing events and performing in them, there’s not a lot of free time for regular blog updates. Having a blog is really important for brands because not only do regular updates get search engines excited about your website (thereby pushing it up the list of search results), they also help your fans and followers keep up (and stay interested in) opportunities to support you.
We put a special focus on automated processes (like auto-posting Instagram photos and auto-sharing to social networks) to make sure that Boom Boom L’Roux’s blog would be updated without taking up her valuable spare time.
As a performer, Boom Boom L’Roux is her product, so showcasing her photo shoots and performances had to be clearly navigable, and pleasing to the eye. A dynamic photo gallery lets her display many shoots over time, and add new sets directly through the WordPress dashboard.
This was a really fun website to put together, and I was lucky to have such an awesome client that let me have a lot of fun with the project! Thanks to
Boom Boom L’Roux for being a great client & beautiful soul!
