I fucking hate this phrase.
First, it's never asked once.
And where do people get off assuming you're lying to them the first time?
As your friend, I assume you're telling me the truth.
Please do the same for me.
And what the hell is with "OK" anyway?
Does anyone really answer "NO"?
If not, then why do you keep asking it?
If false assurances are all you're looking for, please don't bother.
Lest us not forget that "Are you OK?" is supposedly about the responder, not the questioner.
If you want to follow up with something more specific, I'll be happy to answer that.
(note: rephrasing the exact same question is *not* the same as "more specific")
Personally, I don't wish "ok" on any of my friends. I want you to be Happy. And if being Happy means doing something that causes me concern, well, I'll trust that you know what makes you happy.
Because one of my friends is sure to find the humor in asking "So, are you ok?" as a reply, let me just answer now that I'm fine.
PS - running into friends while biking through my neighborhood is fucking awesome. It will never get old. Neither will wonderful Rockridge weather, and good coffee. And dancing tonite. And...
