It seems to me that there are two components to confidence:

• A persistent belief that you have a reasonable chance of success; and
• A willingness to acknowledge failure and accept its consequences.

How late is too late to start martial arts training?

I am informed, by parties who are as far as I know not on LJ, that James Doohan, best known as Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott from Star Trek, has passed away today at the age of 85. Wikipedia confirms this but does not give details. Does anyone have more information about this?
