The night was proving to be peaceful and quiet- indeed, aside from the strange, involved, nearly-real dreams people had been experiencing, the Sphere on the whole had been unusually quiet this entire month.

Simon should have known it wasn't going to last.

He was never good for night shifts at the clinic, being an early-to-bed, early-to-rise type on normal days, and had been half-dozing in one of the offices while attempting paperwork when he was startled awake by what seemed like an explosion, nearly jumping out of his skin at the sound.

Simon was immediately out of his chair and running toward the back door. However, once he opened it, he caught a brief glimpse of fire, burning trees and smoke before his vision began to static out, the expected rush of adrenalin being replaced by a sudden feeling of nausea and weakness sweeping over him. Simon gave a cry of dismay and stumbled back, the door handle slipping from his fingers and causing the exit to slam shut, even as confusion rose around him amongst the people still in the clinic.

Walking through Medical was like swimming upstream as the more heroic and able bodied raced outside towards danger. Meanwhile Genius was doing his best to stay out of it. He was half looking for Simon and half looking for a safe place to hide until the monsters were gone. If it got really bad he figured someone would help them evacuate the island. That's how all these emergencies happened after all.

As he raced by the back exit, he caught a glimpse of prissy dark hair. Simon. He looked--sick?

"Woah Simon." He hovered above him, slightly breathless. "If you're gonna spew, at least make it to a trashcan!"

By the time Genius found him, Simon felt close to passing out. His banter over the journals was the only thing he could focus on; any time he tried to get up and look out the door or one of the clinic's few windows, he would see flashes of what was going on outside before his sight would black out again. Fire. There was fire, and while he felt fear, he also felt weak. The Sphere was trying very hard to keep whatever he had forgotten tucked away forever ( ... )

As Simon was pulling himself up, a well-muscled figure stepped in front of the doorway from the outside. Backlit by the blaze, his features were thrown into shadow, making him nigh unidentifiable as he watched the scene play for a moment: Simon, struggling just to stay upright, and Genius, being erratic and panicky as usual.

Wimps.

Stepping into the bright, buzzing fluorescent light of the clinic, Charger leaned against the doorframe with a smug look on his face.

"Problems, Vicky?" he asked Genius.

As hard as it was to remember, Genius did have medical training and once he saw the dire straits that Simon was in, his face turned serious. He knelt down and grabbed Simon's wrist with one hand.

"Doesn't want to remember? You mean the Fi--" Genius winced and cut himself off just in time. Simon had mentioned his memory loss regarding the Great Fire before and of course this emergency would bring back bad pings. "Never mind. Let's get you out of the way and away from the windows then." Ugh of all the rotten timing.

The sound of Charger's voice made Genius freeze for a moment. "Charger?" What on earth was that idiotic, bullying, homophobic reject doing here? He better not have cut himself with the safety scissors again.

"As much as I'd love to have a heartfelt Greeter/Newborn reunion, I don't have time for you and that pathetic excuse you call a sense of humor right now, kinda in the middle of an emergency here." He gestured to Simon. "He needs to lie down, now."

"Good idea," Simon agreed. "I hate to do it, but... it looks like I don't have much of a choice."

Gathering all his strength, he cut through the weakness and occasional bout of nausea, forcing them to be pushed aside for now, and started toward one of the empty patient rooms- however, he stopped when he heard a strange voice.

He turned to look at the unknown person- Charger- and furrowed his eyebrows.

"... can I help you, sir?" Simon asked in his best polite tone, wondering why he'd called Genius that and what- if anything- this was about.

"Shut it, Stick Stickley, I know what I'm doing."

Charger wasn't a particularly clever or observant man on most days. Part of that was genuine thickness and part of it was not giving a rat's ass about what was happening to most of the people around him. However, he'd been under orders to pay close attention during this little errand and it didn't take a rocket scientist to suss out the fact that Simon was having a bad reaction to the fire. Ignoring Simon's question, he grinned maliciously.

"I think what your little friend wearing the lady's vest really needs is a breath of fresh air. Here, lemme help you." Grabbing the back of Simon's shirt under his collar, Charger half-dragged, half-pushed him towards the door.

"Well that's a first." Was Charger sent to help them defend Medical then? Those muscles had to be useful for something, like manual labor.

...Or not. God why was this man such an idiot.

"Outside? Are you insane!" He ran after them and went as far as to pull on Charger's shirt. "Stop! Open your eyes Roid-o-roni, he's obviously sick! He's having a memory overload thanks to that hot mess outside and if he gets a good view of it he'll get worse! Maybe in your pea brain it makes sense to take sick people into an environment filled with toxic fumes but in the real world it. Is. Bad!"

Had Simon been feeling like himself, he could easily have dodged Charger's grabbing him thanks to Brianna's training. As it was, however, before Simon knew what was happening, the man's push toward the exit had him headed- OUT.

"What the hell are you-"

Giving a cry of dismay, Simon tripped on the door flame, feeling a considerable flare of pain in his right ankle as he did so. He fell face-first, doing his best to break the fall. He lay for a few moments, taking a few deep breaths and hearing Genius' voice, before he pushed himself up...

And got a full glance of what was going on around him, the burning forest, something nagging at the back of his mind

she's a witch and we must purge the devil from her with fire

before he simply flopped forward again in a dead faint.

Genius's protests went utterly ignored while Charger watched the good doctor to see what he would do. Simon blacked out Charger's expression grew even more cocky. He'd barely had to lift a finger to take the first loser out. Knowing Genius, it wouldn't take much more to get him good and subdued.

Brushing the other man's hand off his shirt, Charger whirled on him with alarming speed and reached forward to grab him by the throat. "You're missing the point, Noodle-boy, so listen up and listen good. You're coming with me. You've got some choices on how that goes. You either shut your pie hole and stay still while I tie you up, or I knock you around until you can't complain anymore." He glanced over at Simon and shrugged. "Or I could rough up your friend. Whichever gets the quickest response, because it don't matter to me."

"Simon!"

Charger was too fast, too unexpected for Genius to move away in time. His hand shot up to Charger's instinctively and his cries for help were cut off along with most of his airflow. Coming with him? Rough up Simon?! What the fuck was going on?!

"Can...bref!" His panicked look quickly turned into a pleading look. "Doun urt em!" He raised his hands in the universal signal for surrender.

Easy as pie. This mission was going pretty well if he did say so himself. He should have thought to make a bet with Steve who could grab the most hostages in the least amount of time. He'd have been a shoe in.

Easing his grip on Genius's throat so that the pressure there merely implied a threat rather than promising it., Charger gave him a menacing glare just to drive the point home. "Put your hands together in front of you. Don't make a move after you do, Twiggy. You so much as breathe wrong and you might regret it."

Grabbing the rope fastened on his belt with his free hand, Charger waited to see if Genius would comply.

An utterly terrified Genius brought his arms together slowly, all the while wishing in vein that someone would run by and see them. But most of the people were outside or busy preparing beds...

He shot another panicked glance at Simon and was relieved to see that the other man was still breathing. He looked back at Charger with big confused eyes, well aware of the fact that the man still had his hand around his throat but unable to keep his confusion inside. Maybe he could stall him somehow till someone came to save them? "Why are you doing this?"

Once Genius' hands were in front of him Charger let go of his throat and began to wrap the rope around the other man's wrists. So intent was he on his task that he did not even see Genius's big, soulful puppy eyes. Though, even if Charger had seen them it wouldn't have made a bit of difference, as one of the primary things Charger seemed to lack was empathy.

"You'll find out soon enough. Probably in some big explanation speech. Not like this is my idea, anyway. I'm just along for the ride." Once the knot in the rope was tied securely, Charger smacked Genius upside the head. "Now shut your yap and sit down, Vicky. I've got a busy night ahead of me."
