Seven held the lumpy, awkward bag with a feeling torn between interest and irritation at how difficult it was to manage this thing in the first place.

The fact she needed a park to play this game had made her curious, and the brief explanation she'd had from whatever his name was had made enough sense to send her out here now.

Setting her bag down with an umph, Seven untied the top and looked in.

Yep. Still filled with balls. Oh, and a mat.

She pulled that out first, flopping it onto the ground.

Gai finished his set of a hundred push-ups as Seven came to the area and paused, watching. The bag was full, making him curious. He got up and headed over as she pulled out the mat.

"Hello, Seven! What is that for?" He couldn't resist the urge to glance inside the bag, since she seemed to be pulling the stuff out. "Balls?" Maybe it was a new form of training.

A very special kind of training. Seven smiled at Gai, hefting one of the bowls (what a name for a ball) out of the bag and waving. Or shaking the bowl at him, since it amounted to about the same action.

"Lots of balls, actually. It's some kind of game you play on the grass. I need to find the white one still..."

She set the bowl in hand down on the ground, digging back through to find the one she was looking for. "Ever heard of lawn bowling?"

He picked up the one she'd set down, looking it over. "No, I have not. But I have normal-bowled! Is it close to the same? ...No. That is not a good question. It cannot be, because there are too many balls and I do not see any pins. But is it similar? Do you roll at things?"

Gai pulled out another ball, setting it next to the first. "It is good to have games that can be played on grass. This encourages people to go outside more and enjoy the outdoors instead of staying inside!" Another ball got pulled out and set next to the first two.

Nodding absently along with his proclamation, Seven finally located what she was looking for. "Ha! The jack!" She thought that was what it had been called.

"You do roll the balls, but it's trying to roll them so you get as close to this one as possible." She held the jack aloft, rolling it between her hands. "The others aren't perfect rounds, so I guess the point is figuring out how to compensate for the arc in a roll."

Did any of that even make sense to someone not currently muddling through directions in her head?

"If that is the jack, is one a queen and one a king?" He'd pulled out another ball and had been about to try to stack that on top of the three when she mentioned getting them close. "Oh. So there is no knocking over to be done. You just... roll them to be close?"

It didn't seem that hard. Gai considered the ball he was still holding, its shape and its weight. "Trajectory would not be hard to figure out. Unless there were rocks! Lots of rocks! Different sizes and in different spots, and hard to see because of the grass! Then it would be challenging!"

"Make it into an obstacle course?" She raised an eyebrow, looking around at the immediate area. "I don't think you could keep this down to fourteen rolls, if we do that."

Even as she said that, she was pacing away with the jack. "How many rocks were you thinking? What about branches? We could make some kind of arch to roll under..."

This was starting to sound more interesting than it had when it was rolling balls at another ball just to see how close one could land them.

"Fourteen rolls? There is a limit?" He eyed the balls. "I am sure there is a way! And if we are already changing it some we could change it more!"

Branches. That was a brilliant idea. Gai headed for some of the scattered tree limbs, scooping them up. "What sort of an arch? Big? Small? And the smaller branches could be used to make the balls go a little in the air! A sort of a jump! But if they hit it wrong then they go the wrong direction, so aiming for the branch would be risky..." As he spoke he positioned one of the more slender branches on the 'field,' about halfway between where Seven seemed to be putting Jack and where the other balls were.

Seven watched, standing where she intended to keep the Jack. "If we want ramps and things like that we'll need to set it up differently. As far as an arc, probably big enough to get through at more than one point. At an angle, too."

She set the Jack down, staying crouched and eying what Gai had already set in place.

She stood abruptly, moving forward and tweaking the first branch he laid down. "There!"

Gai nodded and started to build an arc, based on where the Jack was placed. "I think making ramps would be a little difficult based on what we have here." He paused, looking around. "Unless there are rocks that are sloped!" With this idea he searched around a little bit, but unfortunately found nothing that would suit them. "I can keep my eyes out for next time! We will improve it more each time we play! What is this called again?"

He beams in approval of her alteration. "Splendid! And then we roll and... just get them close? That is all? We could add to that too..."
