Cloud was still being followed by the black-and-white fish--frankly, he was beginning to find the creature's apparent need to comment on everything he did to be quite annoying. Very unfortunately, it seemed the fish had to follow him everywhere--even when he managed to successfully trap him in a room, he always turned up again soon after--usually annoyed by the attempt to leave him behind. Cloud had given up by this point.

He was sitting in the park, as it was more interesting than sitting in his room, when he caught a glimpse of a new person out of the corner of his eye. The wonderful thing about the park was even in the dead of winter with snow absolutely everywhere, it was still the best place for people-watching in all of Edensphere. Turning to see who it was, he was struck first by the fact that though he'd never seen this particular man before, there was definitely something familiar about him...

Something... very... familiar...

...that nose...

"...Sniper...?"

Hiking through the forest was quite a bit easier in this new body, Sniper had to admit. It had been a trial trying to find a shirt that fit his new body properly, so he'd settled for leaving one of his usual ones half open; he had so little money as it was and wasn't keen on buying clothing for a body that wouldn't last.

Sniper didn't see Cloud at first, but his voice alerted him of his presence. "Oh, Cloud! You're still small!"

Cloud kind of bounced to his feet and trotted over to where Sniper was standing. It was easier to do things in a childlike manner in this body, somehow... probably because it literally was a child's. "Yeah, it's been ten days now. This can't last forever... but it's a little worrying it's lasted this long." He was getting tired of being so small, and equally tired of people asking him if he needed help.

But that wasn't what he wanted to think about right now. "And you're... different." He reached out one hand, intending to prod the abs he could see through the shirt with a finger, but aborted the move and brought the hand up to finger his bangs instead. "When did that happen?"

It was kinda... cute, watching Cloud act so childlike. With how serious he always was, it was easy to assume that he had just been adult his entire life. Yeah, yeah, he knew intellectually that everyone was a child at some point in their lives, but it was hard to imagine.

"Ten days now? Maaaan, that sucks. You must be getting tired of it." He crouched to talk to Cloud face to face, then glanced down at where it looked like Cloud was about to poke.

"It happened yesterday. I think I'm older, 'cause my hair's a lot longer now and, well..."

The rest was pretty obvious, but he stroked the bit of hair on his chin anyway. "Weird, right? Do you think this is what I'm supposed to look like eventually?"

He had a hard time imagining it.

Another day, another few coins. Picking her way carefully among the shifting junk, Marbles hoisted the sack over her shoulder a little higher and shaded her eyes with her hand, scanning the nearest heap of scrap for anything that looked interesting or valuable.

Something shifted behind her with a clatter, and she turned around, curious. Who the heck would be nearby? Usually she struck out on her own as soon as she reached the Scrapyard, trying to find places where nobody had been digging lately; scavenging alone was, in her opinion, worth the risk if it meant you didn't have to share your finds.

The clatter had been Sniper accidentally tipping one of the small piles of junk over with what was now a much larger shoulder. He muttered to himself, not frustrated for tipping over the junk pile - that happened often enough - but because it was hard getting used to a different body again. He leaned over the pile to make sure it hadn't fallen on anyone crouching behind it and spotted Marbles.

He gave her a placating wave. "Sorry! I didn't mean to tip that over."

Looking closer, he found what appeared to be a slightly damaged green board that he had seen Bridge point out one day. He pocketed it.

Hunh. It was a guy - another scavenger, it looked like - and he wasn't familiar. Marbles tilted her head, bemused. She was pretty sure she'd wouldn't have forgotten a guy who looked like that, even if this place did like turning your memory into a pasta drainer. If the crazy hair and the abs hadn't stuck with her, that nose definitely would have.

"Find anything good?" she called, as he bent to pick something up. She jogged a few steps closer, careful of where she planted her boots. The junk piles around here seemed kind of precariously balanced.

"Not too much," Sniper replied, giving up on trying to restructure the pile in favour of sitting on a wooden board to slide down it. "Some broken swords and computer chips and stuff. Same old same old."

He got back to his feet and gave Marbles a wave. "I don't think I've seen you around here before! Are you new? I'm Sniper."

Juhani looked back. Her follower saw her turning and ducked out of sight behind a tree, but she felt him all the same. She sighed.

In one of her memories she had spoken to and of someone named Dak Vesser. She and Stranger had found him in a place of the Sith, and spoken to him there, and then she had told Stranger who he was. He had trained with her as a Jedi; he had told her that he loved her, and left when she did not return his feelings.

She was fairly certain that Dak had not had the form of a large canine creature with a long tail, but the creature had his voice, and though his sense was a limited thing, to touch it gave her that same feeling of regret and pity and old pain that she had felt for him in that memory ( ... )

Sniper turned around at the sudden noise behind him, startled for only a moment before he saw what he had come to recognize as a friendly face, accompanied by a not as friendly looking dog-monster-thing. He seemed to meet a lot of dogmonsterthings, but unlike the one in the Yard during the zombie attack, this one didn't look feral.

"Oh, hey Juhani," he said with a friendly wave. "Yeah, this is what I meant. Weird, huh?"

At the mention of cold, he scratched at his elbow. "A bit, but I don't want to waste a bunch of money buying clothes for a body I won't have for much longer. It's not so bad."

"It is peculiar," the Cathar allowed, remembering to blink. "Perhaps some sort of cloak? Though I suppose they are not your style."

"Ah, that's a good idea!" Sniper said brightly. "I never even thought of that, but it seems like it'd be useful for going out on walks and stuff. It'd be bad in the Yard if it got snagged on things, and I need to move my arms around to fight, but other than that..."

He grinned at her. "Besides, cloaks are cool."

14th, after Juhani, the Yard handy_psychic February 14 2011, 20:57:08 UTC
Bridge had a hammock he kept down in the Yard that he occasionally used when he needed a nap during the often busy and exciting days. His insomnia often kept him awake all night, and subsequently he tired easily during the day.

Today was one such day; after the many monster encounters over the weekend, Bridge was exhausted. So he catnapped in his hammock, Logan keeping watch for any familiar faces or threats.

When Sniper saw a lump lying in a hammock during his travels around the Yard, he approached it with caution before realizing that it was none other than his boss. He tutted underneath his breath.

"Man..." He muttered. "If he's so tired to sleep in a dangerous place like this, he should just stay home."

No one was going to yell at the boss for taking a day off at least. Even if Logan was guarding him, having Bridge stay in such a vulnerable position made Sniper more than a little uneasy. It only took a moment for him to make up his mind.

He sat down, legs crossed, and unstrapped the Kabuto from off his back to hold it loosely in his hands. He turned to Logan and gave the robo-dog a couple of ginger pats on the head and brought a finger to his lips.

"Shh."

After all, if there was one rule that every pirate crew could adhere to, Sniper figured it was not to let your captain sleep on what could possibly count as enemy grounds.

Logan nodded in agreement with Sniper, but otherwise stayed silent while his best friend slumbered; he, perhaps more than anybody, knew how much Bridge tended to neglect his rest.

Instead, he lay down next to Sniper after being patted, nuzzling against him, tail thumping on the ground.

Bridge, meanwhile, smacked his lips and groaned, mumbling in his sleep.

"But sharks don't fight octopi... why would they merge into one..."

Sniper smiled contentedly down at Logan, feeling an odd affection for the the little robot dog. A strange sense of familiarity washed over him, something that told him that teaming up with an animal was something normal.

He stifled the chuckles at Bridge's sleep-talking and scanned the Yard for golems. Upon seeing one approaching, albeit from very far away, he squinted, readied the Kabuto, and fired a pellet into its gaping maw. It exploded quite neatly, and Sniper only hoped that the ensuing blast didn't wake Bridge up.
