Fred had been helping Chivalry in her spare time for a few days now; today was no exception. She spent the time before the party helping him to prepare some food and generally get the bar ready for a great many people to descend upon it.

She heard the first few people start to arrive, though she remained in the kitchen for nearly half an hour, reluctant to abandon Chivalry after she told him she would help. Finally, she couldn't stand it; she told him she was going to go enjoy the party for a bit, and would be around if he required her help.

She slipped out the door of the kitchen into the main room and immediately headed over to the bar; she had discovered from experience that alcoholic beverages didn't seem to affect her much, so it probably wouldn't matter if she had one now. She ordered a drink she'd heard one of the other people mention as very good--something called a Frazzleberry.

It was a rather oddly-named drink, but after the bartender handed her the drink and she took a sip, she pronounced it quite a tasty one nonetheless.

She wandered off into the already-crowded bar, in search of people she knew.

The second birthday boy was also wandering around the bar, taking in the entire scene with wide eyes. He could honestly say that he never expected this day to come. A whole year in Edensphere and he was neither dead or stuck in a jail cell. A year later and Qi was still alive, and Youth and Bell and Fred and Gene. Sure there were some folks gone--he was still reeling internally from the sudden loss of Koi and ironically Boss. Those two deaths/disappearances had caught him completely off guard. But overall the core group was still intact. They'd made it through the year.

Not only that but there was a party in his honor! For some reason he'd woken up that morning sure that no one would come, that the sudden chilly weather would keep everyone home. There was something in the back of his mind that said guys like him didn't have birthday parties. But he was wrong. People were here and they had presents and it was almost overwhelming. When he saw Fred he almost ran up to her in childish excitement. His entire face was practically glowing like a giddy 5 year old.

"Fred! Hey you made it!"

Fred had finished a little more than half her drink before Genius came up to her. She smiled warmly at him; his good mood was rather infectious, it seemed. "Hello, Genius. I have been here most of the day, as a matter of fact; but of course, I would not miss your party for anything."

She took another healthy gulp of her drink, then frowned. "It seems to be getting rather warm in here, is it not?" While it might seem like a strange statement, Fred usually didn't notice temperature changes unless they were extreme; if the room felt warm to her, everyone else should have been positively boiling.

Wow Fred looked ...well. Great! Relaxed, her cheeks looked a bit rosey. It was different from the usually tense look she normally had when they met up. But then they were often meeting under crises, so maybe that was it. It was times like this that Genius was struck by how attractive his friend was, although if he were honest, most of the people in the sphere were freak'n attractive. It was a familiar feeling, being surrounded by pretty people.

"I know but--I'm glad." He beamed at her. "I'm really glad you're here." The random switch to the weather made him frown slightly. "Is it? Not to me but it is snowing outside so maybe they cranked up the heat--does this place have heat?" So many buildings had no temperature control which was a freak'n shame, it didn't take much to build proper insulation did it?

"I am as well. It is simply incredible to think we have been here for a whole year already." It was even more incredible to think that their first exchanges had been joking arguments (at least, Fred had always been joking) about the proper names of certain starchy foods.

"I suppose that could be it." She was certainly willing to let it go at that, even if it wasn't the correct explanation. "How has your day been thus far? I trust it has been enjoyable." He had been so adamant she have a celebration of some sort to commemorate her own 'birthday', she wanted to be certain he was not unhappy in the least bit. It was somewhat noisy in the bar, so as she asked she stepped a little closer, though she ended up closer than was really socially acceptable.

"I can't believe it. I mean, it went by so fast, eh frienemy? We're practically old timers now." It was scary to think how often they had brushed or in Fred's case met death in the past year. But the brighter thoughts, the warmth and joy of having his friends in attendance, was enough to make chase the darkness away from now.

"Dude, we got cake, presents and all our important people here! It's not simply enjoyable." He nudged her playfully, barely noticing that she was awfully close. "It's great to see Rick so happy huh. Rick. I can't get used to that either."

"Indeed, I cannot remember the last time he was quite so happy... well, I suppose after Promise came back and he told her she was his daughter." She sipped from her glass, the melting ice cubes moving and clinking against one another musically.

"Oh!" She swallowed her mouthful quickly, wincing a little at the burn of swallowing alcohol too quickly and gesturing a bit randomly with the hand holding the glass. "I didn't bring your present, I hope you don't mind. I was planning to give it to you later."

"Yeah that was a great moment in Richard Castle history. Hey what are you drinking?" It smelled nice but not too boozy.

"Really? Whatcha get me?" He was lacking in tact but then it was Fred. "Nooo the suspense will kill me!" He winked at her. "Actually I haven't given Castle his gift either. I wanted to wait a bit. Promise helped me pick it out. Should be great!"

"Something known as a 'Frazzleberry'; it is quite good... if perhaps a bit more alcoholic than I had first thought." Fred frowned into the remains of her drink, belatedly realizing this might be the reason she felt somewhat warm.

She laughed; it was just a hair away from a giggle, really, but it still counted as a laugh, so that was alright. "Oh, no you don't. I will give it to you later, and you don't get even a hint before I do." She waggled her finger in his face playfully. "I will give Castle his at the same time."

"Frazzlewhat?" He laughed. "I think it is but tipsy looks good on you! You looked relaxed for once." He laughed at the sight of her frowning into her drink. "It's a party right? I won't judge."

He pretended to pout. "Oh come on, just a hint? Is mine bigger? It should be, I'm the younger one that means I get the good stuff! Literally! I think I hatched second."

Fred shrugged, smiling again at his words. "Yes, I suppose it is."

She snorted a little at that. "Yours is smaller than a breadbox, alright? Now, do stop begging for hints, and I shall give it to you tomorrow."

Fred sipped at her drink again. "You were the younger, though? I do not believe I knew that." Smalltalk, woo.

He'd taken a while with the drink list, rather unsure for once of what he liked. Finally he'd asked to be surprised with something that wasn't too strong. So now he had a reddish-purple drink that didn't taste all that strong. And he wasn't about to ask what the name of it was. With his luck he would be blushing the rest of the night.

Wandering around, he came across Fred. It was his first test of whether or not he could be convincingly happy. "Hello, Fred! You are enjoying yourself?" He'd never exactly been good at small talk. It should suffice. He hoped.

After speaking with Genius for a time, Fred had gone back to get another drink. Rather than go through the bother of choosing something else, she had simply asked for the same again; it had been quite tasty, even if she was a little unsteady on her feet now. But since she couldn't possibly be drunk after just one drink, she decided that she was just a little tipsy. She just needed some food, that was all.

She was headed over to one of the food tables--sipping from her glass as she went, just to make sure it was just as good as the first one--when Gai came up to her. "Youth! No, sorry. Gai. Hello!" She grinned broadly at him, touching his arm with her free hand. "I am perfetly... perf--" She broke off and brought the hand up to her mouth to muffle a laugh before returning it to his arm. She tried again, pronouncing it a trifle exaggeratedly. "Perfectly well, yes. And you? You are well?"

It was good to be near one of the food tables; Gai hadn't had dinner yet. He had glanced over at what was available until Fred started talking. Then his attention was completely on her. Gai looked from her hand to her face and back to her hand. That wasn't a very normal thing for Fred, even though she was friendly.

"Perfectly well? You are... sure?" But her actions were starting to make a sort of sense. Carefully Gai moved so that his arm was around her instead, stabilizing her as subtly as he could. She probably shouldn't be standing for much longer, if his guess was right. But that she was drunk so soon didn't seem like her. "I am well also. What would you like to eat? Let us pick that out and then we will find a table."

"Oh yes, quite sure," Fred smiled at him. For some reason it didn't seem odd Gai was wrapping his arm around her shoulders; her only reaction to it was to adjust the way she was holding her glass so she didn't spill her drink.

"I was going to get some food, actually," she practically chirped at him; she was in a very good mood, it was a bit odd. But she didn't bother to think about it long, her thoughts focusing on the new goal: dinner. "You know, I'm not sure. Let's go see what there is to eat, alright?" Sitting sounded good; it would be difficult to eat standing up and also keep a grip on her drink, especially given the way she was having a bit of trouble keeping her balance.

"...It is good to be sure." He wasn't so sure. But she was surrounded by friends, so if she was going to get drunk, at least it was a safe enviroment. Gai watched her drink, trying to make sure she didn't spill it.

"Food is a splendid idea." Carefully he tried to guide her to the food tables. Food sobered people down, right? "Here we are! Many options!" Gai drained his glass and set it off to the side so he could have hands free for Fred and food both. "Point or nod at things, and I will plate them for you, all right?" He grabbed two plates, setting them on the table so he could still support his friend, just in case.
