------
Things were... picking up pace in The Hall of Beginnings. Fugue found himself staying more often, considering the fact that new arrivals were hatching more frequently than ever. And he would rather be there--he trusted himself more than any of his apprentices. (Although, that would mean that they were getting paid for doing nothing.) It was simply a special kind of rush, the thrill of the game taking over and overwhelming him.
It felt so good.
And there he was again, sitting on his low chair, tapping his foot in time with a timeless tick of a clock. Tap.... Tap.... Tap.... Tap.... Perfect timing, perfect rhythm, regardless of how excited he was on the inside. There was once a time he wouldn't hold his breath for these moments, but now he didn't mind so much. Fugue wanted what he wanted, and it was finally coming to him. First, it was in trickles, but now was something more of a steady stream.
Some of the cocoons wriggled, and every time one did so, his eyes shot over to examine and observe. Each time that it was a fluke, the elder felt himself become extremely disappointed. Perhaps rightly so.
It was when he heard that familiar break, the crumbly shell opening up, that he composed himself and schooled his expression, slowly rising to his feet before taking up the usual provisions -a paper map of Edensphere, a paper journal, a set of clothing, and a pouch of coins- before pausing, thinking maybe there would be two again (he could never tell these days), and waiting by the table.
