Characters: Aim (imthefavorite) and Gene (live_ringer)
Date/Time: The evening of January 18, 2010
Location: Section 1 Canteen
Rating: PG-13 for possible language
Summary: The brothers Dylandy reunite, meaning awkwardness, being emotionally stilted, and possible idiocy are likely ahead.

It was really shaping up to be a hell of a week--literally and right from the very beginning when Gene woke up amidst fire and brimstone on Sunday, only to be air lifted from the harsh, unforgiving landscape by a beast that seemed spawned from a nightmare. (Lezard had assured him the dragon was 'gentle as a kitten' but the man's own shady demeanor was less than convincing and Gene found himself glad when the ride was finally over.)

But that was fine. Once the initial terror wore off, it was easier to brush the experience off as something that would make a good story later and he had gotten out in one piece, after all.

This? This would be much more difficult.

Gene fidgeted as he walked the path to the canteen, and thought back on the nuances of Aim's entry. Every detail pointed to one conclusion: his biological twin was back. And how was he supposed to react to that? He hadn't spent much time with the man when he was Range, didn't know him well at all. There was always this weird sense of familiar distance that made it feel strange to even have the opportunity to be closer. Yet when Range had disappeared, Gene had found himself oddly bitter over it. Maybe even a little scared. If his dream was anything to go by, disappearance was a pattern with the man. Speaking of the dream, that was another thing to take into account: the odd, residual feelings of resentment and sadness that this relative stranger left him with.

Truth be told, his first instinct wasn't to deal with it, but to run. He wanted avoid facing whatever this meant. But, for better or worse, Aim had sought him out specifically. Between that and the fact that some of the few people who could provide information from their world had vanished just a day before, Gene was practically obligated.

Maybe it would be for the best, he thought to himself as he walked through the doors of the canteen. Maybe speaking with Aim would make up for the opportunities he'd lost by not trying harder to contact Raise and Aurora.

Gene sighed. Too many thoughts, and most of them were starting to go in circles. He camped out on a stool in an unpopulated section of the canteen before fishing out a cigarette and a lighter. If anything could help clear his head, that could. ...Plus, it had the added bonus of being proven to bug his brother. A corner of Gene's mouth quirked up in amusement at that thought as he took a long drag on his cigarette and settled in to wait.
