Characters: Animus (
sins_sacrosanct) and Contract (
phantomhivemind)
Date/Time: Evening 1/7
Location: Chateau Animus in Section 1
Rating: PG, maybe.
Summary: A happy reunion, maybe. A chance for both of them to play chess-but-with-people's-emotions? Definitely.
Animus sighed, squinted at a column of numbers, then leaned back in his chair. After a moment he turned the piece of paper over, clearly resigned to getting no more work finished tonight. Tossing a glare at the chorus behind him, just daring them to come up with a song about leaving something unfinished, he turned and began to pace the room.
Contract was alive. Interesting--after so long an absence, he'd taken the boy for dead. He had felt...little, at that resignation, nor had he felt compelled to examine that feeling--though now that Contract was returning, he thought it might be becoming to consider it. The only thing he'd felt at that conclusion, twistedly enough, was a kind of...almost ecclesiastical satisfaction, a serenity at the notion of death that transcended such fear of a usual unknown. A distant part of his mind noted that this ought to be alarming, but he dismissed it. Perhaps he'd been religious in his life before.
He should be happy to see Contract again, but...again, he couldn't muster up the emotion. There was even a twinge of regret...why? Why should he think it the worse of two alternatives, him being alive? This wasn't normal. What was it?
