A bar opening? Derrick was SO there. Even his man-twin's weird reaction to the prospect of spiked juice boxes and the fact that he wasn't actually making any money from writing could hardly dampen his spirits.

He decided to take a perch at the bar itself after arriving soon after seeing the entry announcing the opening and stowing his coat in the coat room. He didn't want to dress TOO fancy, but didn't want to look sloppy, either, so he wore his best jeans and a blue button-up shirt, deciding that was a nice comprimise.

Ordering a martini, he settled in to people-watch. Perhaps later could come mixing with the people he was watching and inspiration for more stories...

Fred had been down to the mall today, looking for the things on the list Bastet had given her, and she had been unable to resist picking up one or two things for herself. Which is why she was wearing an elegant blue dress as she walked through the door, rather than her usual long-sleeved shirt with trousers. Her hair was, as usual, loose.

Once through the door she took a second to let her eyes adjust to the darker interior, noting that it looked different to the last time she had been in the bar. Hardly surprising, considering all that had happened since then...

Fred wandered over to the bar and looked at the drinks menu--not that she was considering getting anything alcoholic, but it was interesting to look at nonetheless.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the man next to her turn her way slightly, and she realized he looked familiar. Turning toward him, she smiled slightly in recognition. "Hello again, Derrick. Fancy running into you here."

Derrick spotted Fred and raised an eyebrow at her attire, motioning to the chair beside him. She looked quite nice in the dress if he did say so himself- and perhaps he would, if he found the right moment to.

"Evening, Fred. Care to sit with me and people-watch for a while? This is quite a..." He groped for the right word. "AWESOME place. That's about the only way to describe it. This bar has everything."

Fred smiled at Derrick's enthusiasm about the bar as she slipped onto the stool next to him. "People-watching? That sounds most interesting. Have you seen any good dramas thus far, or have there only been comedies?" She smoothed a wrinkle out of her dress absently as she spoke.

"A little bit of both," Derrick replied. "The interesting thing about people is all of them have a life story. Never mind the fact that we can't remember a damn thing about outselves here- we build new stories as we live our lives here." He then frowned. "I have to admit I'm having trouble finding enough for my next book, though. I might go to my standby and write something about Charger and what I assume is his GLAMOROUS love life."

He smirked slightly, only half-joking.

Fred stifled a laugh at the idea of Charger's love life being written about. She had never really met the man, but the idea of a story like that was amusing no matter who it was about. "Amusing as that idea sounds, perhaps you should change the details a bit. If Charger realizes who it is about he might become a tad miffed."

She picked at a loose thread in the embroidery on her skirt. "Have you come up with a solution for making books more easily? I might have a suggestion if you have not."

The printing press had still been in the Post Office; she had checked a week ago or so. Just a quick reconnaissance mission. She hadn't dared stay long, not with the repercussions of her last visit, but she had noticed that not only did the Post Office look different, the printing press was in a new place now. Fred wondered again who had moved it, but it didn't matter. Just so long as they didn't send another snake through her roof.

"Of course, I'll make up a bunch of new names. Swap a few details here and there," Derrick agreed. He then frowned slightly, setting down his martini glass and crossing his arms.

"I've thought about fetching a computer and a printer from the Wilderness, but that's not going to last forever," he said. "And if I'm going to be making any money off my books, I need to have a way of making enough copies for people to actually BUY instead of just borrowing and swapping them around."

He then looked at her curiously.

"I'll bite. What is it?"

Fred nodded slightly. "Good idea, and the idea of getting a computer is not a bad one either. It will probably make writing up the books a lot easier... no need to erase or scribble things out if you don't like the words you write. Just hit the 'erase' key, and start over."

"I found something you may find useful, in the... in an island near the Bazaar." Fred kept her voice pitched relatively low but not so low that Derrick couldn't hear her. She was trying to look like she wasn't talking about anything important. For all she knew, that was the case; she wouldn't have worried about telling the aspiring writer about the printing press at all, if it had not been located in the Post Office. "A printing press. It's rather rusty and I am not sure what condition it's in, but if you can fix it up that would help your book-writing efforts immensely." She suppressed a sudden urge to glance over her shoulder, and tried to convince herself that no one was listening in to their conversation.

Smoke was doing his best to get around to all of the people he didn't recognize, and finally stopped by the man who looked... very uncharacteristically at home in the bar. The people he met like that were few and far between.

So he stepped up to the man and gave a little wave. "Yo! I'm Smoke - the owner. Hope you're enjoying yourself?"
