Summary: Kiba's naked, covered in goo, and his hair is down. Mmm. ...oh and Kazahana's there to greet him.
Kazahana could see why so few people met Bastet's standards for the guard. It wasn't all about ability--standing on guard in the hatchery for hours at a time was boring. Not that other jobs didn't have their boring parts, but this one was too important to indulge people who didn't have the patience.
She had it, but boredom wasn't the main problem. The truly hard part was that moment just after a cocoon cracked, when her adrenaline would spike and she'd fill up with hope despite her efforts. Every time it could be Kiba, until it wasn't. It was hard to take, and she hadn't even seen that many births, since she was only filling in off-hours shifts to help Bastet while the guard's numbers were down. Everyone had to do their part. And she was glad she could be here if--when--he was reborn. Under normal circumstances, she'd have been pitching a tent in the middle of the Hall, but these were anything but normal.
So she waited, and she'd keep doing it as long as was necessary. At least the greeter on duty with her tonight seemed to sense her mood, and didn't try to force awkward conversation. Silence was welcome right now.
