Characters: Bastet (felinemystique), Snap (snapsnap_boom) and Raise (subject_e0057)
Date/Time: Thursday afternoon, November 5
Location: Bastet's house, Section 4
Rating: PG-13 for possible language
Summary: When Bastet doesn't show for her Hatchery shift, Snap comes to her house in his search. Raise is allegedly just there for his pets, and is not at all checking up on her.

Bastet hadn't intentionally missed work. In the back of her mind, she knew she had appointments and responsibilities to keep; her Hatchery shift, her farm shift, visiting Blood and Kazahana, getting more painkillers for Moon, grabbing some squirrel meat from Zombie for all the pets Apple was caring for. All her plans for the day weren't precisely forgotten. And it wasn't that they were no longer important.

The weeks of little sleep and high stress had left her drained emotionally and physically. Without enough food to fuel her, she was conserving her energy as best she could, only using shunpo when absolutely necessary. And even her home wasn't quite the refuge it could have been; she never would have turned them away, but caring for a traumatized child and an injured man were just more responsibility settled on a pair of shoulders that already carried so many.

But through it all, she'd checked Range's journal, every morning and every night. As long as it still worked, she could get up and keep going, knowing that was one less thing to concern herself with.

Until late last night/early this morning, while waiting to speak to someone at the farm, she checked once again..only to find no further writing transmitted over the pages of his journal.

She'd stared dumbly for a few minutes, unable to quite believe her eyes. He couldn't be gone, right? Not so soon after--

Her fingers curled around the leather of the cover; Bastet was very good at lying to other people. But not so at much lying to herself.

So the shifts and the errands and the meetings weren't exactly forgotten; she just needed the time to focus. She didn't even remember where she'd wandered that night and morning, only returning home when the sun was high in the sky. She slipped into her bedroom window; if she was quiet enough, Moon wouldn't know she'd returned. She paused, reaching out with her senses; he wasn't here at all. He must be feeling well enough to get some air, probably with Apple.

Putting the matter out of her mind, Bastet stripped down to her panties and tank top, curling up on her bed.

"We only have to be as close as you want to be."

The pain hadn't lessened one bit; she still couldn't focus on anything beyond it.

"...fine. We'll just see what happens, all right?"

You asshole. You asshole.

She squeezed her eyes shut, curling into herself against the rage and grief clawing at her insides.

Clearly, she wasn't going anywhere.
