She came by this evening, though, thinking that it might be nice to be among friends, or strangers who could be friends. She knew that Smoke worked here, too, and he'd just returned from the Wilderness last week. It'd be nice to see him. Or just any friendly face, really.
She made her way up to the bar and considered the options, eyes passing over the bottles along the wall.

"Hello there! What can I get for you?" There seemed to be another new face, although she remembered seeing this one around before. Edensphere was small enough that she quickly came to know the regulars at the bar.
Reply
"Just a beer, please. Unless you want to recommend something? I don't come here mind."
Reply
"It depends on what you like, really. Something sweet, something a bit stronger? I can always give you a beer, of course, but we do have some variety right now. We were able to restock from the Wilderness last month."
Reply
"Something sweet would be nice," she said, and before the girl could move away, she offered a hand over the bar. "I'm Flame, by the way."

She paused to consider. "Would you like a fruit cocktail, in that case? Mine aren't even that wobbly anymore. I could use the practice!"
Reply
She hid a bit of a smile. Wobbly cocktails sounded like an interesting prospect. At least, it would be something to chuckle at... not in a mean way. It reminded her of her own poor attempts at cooking. Kagerou could probably do better than that.
"Practice away!" she said cheerfully.
Reply
"Oh, you've met him? It seems most people do sooner or later, he's... been here for so long. Though I guess you meet most people who need weapons sooner or later, right?"
Reply
"I do get a lot of people in and out of the shop, definitely. It's never lonely there."
Reply
"And here you are!" With both hands, she set the glass on the bar. "Smoke does seem to get around a lot--I mean, he is everywhere," Kagerou hastened to amend, although the other meaning of the phrase wasn't far off the mark with regard to her flirtatious friend, either. "He greeted me when I was born a second time, too. Well, was on Guard duty, but it more or less turned out that way."
Reply
"That's what happened with me too -- although at my first birth. I was sort of... yelling at my greeter, and then Smoke interrupted." She laughed, a touch uneasily, glad that she hadn't run into that man since. She probably would have threatened him again.
She wasn't sure what to do with the information that Kagerou had been born twice. It made her a little sad that this vibrant woman had died even once, because Flame doubted it had been her fault, but she wasn't going to ask. Kagerou seemed casual enough about it. She wouldn't ask.

She pressed her hands to the edge of the counter and leaned back. Oh, and she was rambling again, wasn't she? Just when she'd thought she was getting better about it.
"Anyway, what happened, if you don't mind my asking?"
Reply
She stabbed the straw in her cup, a little violently, but then she realized it was a little rude and took a sip. It improved her mood considerably: maybe it wasn't the prettiest drink, but it was sweet and tasty.
"This is good, by the way," she said, and let the anger go -- it always came in waves, and generally she felt much better after relieving some tension. That felt like a long time ago, anyway. The grudge almost wasn't worth keeping.
Reply
"Most of the time, everyone behaves very well, though," she hastened to add. "We don't tolerate too much rowdiness, but without any rowdiness it's not really a proper bar atmosphere."
Reply
She trailed off thoughtfully and took another sip of her drink.
Reply
"Do you mean like, start over? Turn over a new leaf? I... suppose sometimes the past can be a burden. So it could even be a good thing."
