I've been watching Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix this week -- one or two episodes per day; I'm on episode 7 next -- and I have to say, if they were going for a sort of fusion of classic noir, seventies conspiracy/mafia dramas, and kung-fu comic book action, they hit the mark pretty damn well. The overpowering effect is of creeping existential dread plus a LOT of violence.
I mean, I like it! The characters are engaging, the plot is tense and gripping in all the right ways, and the performances are really solid. There's also a surprising amount of humor and people being supportive of each other. But it's not exactly easy watching.
...
I think I will leave episode seven for tomorrow. Even aside from my general audiovisual media difficulties, there is only so much adrenaline I can take in one day.
