shopping, wineries, and writing frustrations

Today Mom and I:

1. ate breakfast at Friendly's.

2. shopped at Target, which in my case meant buying new laundry bags and new shirts, since my old ones had massive holes or were getting ragged about the cuffs and hems, respectively.

3. got me a flu shot -- for some reason, Target was hosting a two-day clinic thing, and Mom said "I want you to get a shot. I'll pay," so I shrugged and filled out the forms. (They took a number of small insurance carriers, but not Blue Cross. Apparently my insurance provider doesn't think flu shots are worth paying for. Shame on them.)

4. went to the Farmer's Market, where Mom bought two bottles of wine and I (heroically) bought nothing.

5. attempted to go to the fall book sale, but gave up on account of massive lines. :-(

6. did a mini wine tour. First we drove up the Cayuga Wine Trail, stopping at Lucas Vineyards, Sheldrake Point Vineyard, and Hosmer Winery. Then we headed back down to Americana Vineyards and had lunch at the Crystal Lake Café, which is their attached restaurant. And finally we headed back into town and out east to Six Mile Creek Vineyard. I bought four bottles of wine. Mom bought one bottle and a tacky Christmas ornament for my grandmother.

I think that's a productive day!

---------------

In writing news, I stripped a 550-word stupid and thematically awkward digression from chapter 12 of "Secrets," clarified a few moments surrounding Hermione's Petrification (which is a set of mini scenes I am quite fond of), and added 575 new words that assymptotically approach Harry and Ron's attempt to 'follow the spiders.'

Also, Ginny is apparently depressed and guilty enough to semi-seriously consider suicide, if only for a few minutes. This worries me. I will either have to rework some of the emotional arc of the chapter, or strip that out... except I don't want to strip it out, which means I'm going to have to do some delicate revision work once I get to the end of this blasted section.

10,900 words and counting on this chapter.

Argh.
