Fandom: Avengers (2012)

Referenced characters: Tony
Pairing: Steve/Clint

Rating: G
Summary: A quiet late night with just Steve and Clint.
Notes: Another one for
feywood.

It's five AM and everyone else is asleep. Well, Tony might still be in his workshop, but nobody else is up here, anyway, in the near-dawn chill. Steve has sat beside him all night, without saying a word, and this is exactly why Clint loves him. Steve had found him here around midnight, looking down at the city, and instead of trying to talk to him, he just sat down next to him. He hadn't even said hi; the touch of his shoulder against Clint's, warm and solid, said that for him louder than words.

He knew before now that he loved Steve, but it still seems like a revelation somehow. They've been together for months, but Clint -- he's never felt so close to Steve as he does right now, he's never felt so full up with the need to keep him close and the knowledge that Steve won't go --

He leans against Steve just that tiny bit, closing his eyes. "Tired?" he asks.

Steve doesn't even startle at him finally speaking. "No," he says, softly. "But if you want to go to bed..."

"Yeah," Clint says, without moving yet, "in a minute."

Steve slowly puts his arm around Clint, judging the moment just right. Normally Clint would shy away from affection as open as this, anywhere except in the confines in one of their own bedrooms, and even then he'd hesitate. But Steve has picked his moment just right, and Clint just relaxes that little more into him. "Okay," Steve says, softly, and Clint hears in it a promise: anything you want. Always.

It should terrify him that he believes it, but this is Steve.
