Summary: Without the Gae Bolg.
Notes: Guuueeess who just finished the game. I've had this half-written for a week: I finally found the end.
He almost can't remember not being bound to the Gae Bolg. It feels as if it lurked under the current of his thoughts always, a low hum of power -- frightening at first in its strength, but then familiar after what felt like many years. He didn't expect to miss it, but he does: he misses the convenience of it, yes, and the power of it, but he misses more the low buzz at the back of his mind, the promise of protection. The Gae Bolg, in its way, wanted to protect him, for he was bound to it: it used him as surely as he used it. It came to be a part of him, and he a part of it.
In the last moments, as it began to tear away from him, he clung on. Don't leave me, he whispered in his mind. Not like --
But he's alone again, all the same.
And yet. "We're here," Emmy said, softly, and he knew then that it wasn't true -- he wasn't alone, will never be alone, not truly. And, more than anything, he's free.
