Merriman catches the traces of bitterness barely masked, sunk deep in his lord's voice. "You've given up much, my lord," he says, quietly. "I do not know if it has been worth it or not. Only you know that."
"I did not ask if it was worth it," Arthur says, glancing at him. "I asked if I had served the Light well."
"You have."
"That, at least, is something," the king says, looking out to the sunset. "Will I have rest soon, Merlion?"
"Soon," Merriman says, bowing his head just a little.
