Summary: Xu keeps Nida company. For
over_look.
Stepping into the lift, Xu has to wonder why Nida had to get hold of her, and not Squall. If there's no problem, then what need to call her? And if there is a problem, why not call the Commander of Garden? Not the person who has been reduced to little more than a secretary and errand girl. She sighs softly. Nida was probably too shy to call Squall straight away. Not that he seems more comfortable around her. He has a tendency to blush and stammer when faced with any woman, and more so with her.
He's a cute kid, really. Xu sometimes feels the urge to laugh at his attempts -- but more often than that, she feels pity for him, stuck up on the bridge and always taking orders without seeing people because important or not, he's the pilot and should be up there constantly.
Making a mental note to arrange for other pilots to be trained, she steps out of the lift. As expected, Nida's alone up there, the wind stirring his hair a little. She sees his hands tighten on the controls, feels the little bump as Garden shifts to avoid a rock sticking up.
"You called me?" she asks, stepping up behind him, looking around for any sign of trouble. Certainly, she can feel no problem with the handling of Garden -- it moves as smoothly as ever despite the rocky ground below that Nida must constantly adjust their course to fly over safely.
"I did," he says, very quietly.
"Is there some kind of problem?"
"No -- yes. I don't... I'm sorry."
Xu frowns slightly. "Is there a problem, or isn't there? If there's a problem, you should have called Squall instead, you know."
"I don't like talking to Squall," Nida says, and there's a touch of bitterness in his voice. "I used to really admire him, you know that? Now he barely even speaks to me. I wanted what he's got."
She wants to laugh at the idea of Nida in control of Garden -- but then she would've laughed at withdrawn, cold Squall in control of the Garden and commanding such loyalty, and look at him now. "He didn't ask for any of it."
"That might be what annoys me most," Nida says. He huffs softly. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to call you up here to bore you..."
Xu catches the look on his face -- pained frustration. She reaches up and, careful not to disturb him from steering the Garden, puts her hand on his shoulder, squeezing gently. "I'm not bored."
"Everybody gets bored of me," he says, disbelievingly.
"I suppose you're bored up here, aren't you?"
He turns to look at her just a little, and then he smiles. "Thank you for coming up here. I wanted... I wanted someone to talk to. And... well, to prove I still exist and I'm not just imagining it. And I... I really like you."
Xu doesn't know what to do, really. But Garden needs its pilot.
"I'll come up here and talk to you more often, if you like."
