I COULDNT MAKE THE PHONES WORK
Spent my Birthday in Paris very hungover answering questions for french journalists,I was very thirsty and asked for a glass of water for both me and jasper,on the 3rd interview I was in the middle of saying "yes she is real..." when the journalist i was speaking to took a huge sip from my glass of water,I didnt know what to do,I wasn't au fait enough with parisian customs to know wether water was just shared at a table or wether he was stealing mine,and had to sit throughout the rest of the interview very thirsty as I didnt want to sip my water as the journalist might have thought it was his and been upset that I was stealing it or (more likely) I didnt want to sip it drawing attention to what he'd just done,I was parched and in hindsight should have taken a huge sip of jaspers water and then stared at him saying "your turn,sip it sip it".
Art Brut broke america in November,starting with New Jersey we all went to New York on the day we arrived with me and Mike deciding to go back early from the Port Authority in New York the port authority makes no sense the busses dont have destinations they have numbers there are over 400 gates also without destinations and two different companies,it was terrifying just a list of numbers with no reason I couldnt even begin to understand,luckily we eventually found a bus driver who appeared to be drunk and therefore took us where we wanted to go it took 3 hours to get back (it had taken us 15 minutes to get there)
In New jersey we stayed at the palace hotel I really liked it there the water in the shower smelt a bit like stew.
Then we played in new york for three days everyone danced, loads of fun,although I couldn't make the phone boxes understand I was trying to Phone england and Kept getting put through to an operator,neither of us knew what the other was saying even though we're supposed to speak the same language.
Played In Toronto the Bass amp caught fire and I had to do about 15 minutes of "stand up" in the middle of the set.
In Toronto I met my Internet friends the Mission and in Chigaco pawnshope and iners,this destroyed my theory they were all one person that lives in poole and my other theory the whole of the internet is run by a 12 year old boy in texas.
Played in LA mike got very Ill and the Dr that treated him had been on top of the pops, amazing,I also Bizzarely managed to do what i normally do on tour which is go for a walk buy a snapple and charity shop,and obviously it was fun singing that song and pointing at the floor.
found out America doesn't have a top of the pops which made the whole thning feel like a wasted journey,although amazing super fun.
I also got engaged to my girlfriend which means i have to become a catholic i cant wait,ive already been practicing by saying things like that charlie bucket in that charlie and the choclate factory film is such a little prod.
