I need a vacation. It's been over a year since I've taken any time off work for more than a day or two, or travelled anywhere for fun. Will is on vacation this week. So are my parents, and Dave and Michelle. I am envious of them all. I start school very soon and I'm worried that it's just not going to happen this year and that makes me feel grumpy

Electric bills jumped for everyone. Something about monopolies and you not having a choice.

But...to go up by $100 in one month when (afaik) my consumption has remained steady? I need to do some research and make some phone calls.... Buggery monopolies.... *grumble*

who is your electric provider?

i'm working for pepco now so i've learned tons about how people are charged for electricity. in order to control the natural monopolies that are electric companies, each state regulates how much they can charge customers. and every few years (it's been about 7 for pepco) they submit a rate case with the state gov't to ask them if they can raise their rates.

i'm pretty sure bge just went through this and raised their rates an obnoxious amount.

I have to check on that, but I can't think of a thing that would have made it go up last month. Especially not so much as to suddenly cost me an extra $100 in just one month's time! :(
