Santa Cop 2009
... Hey folks. I'm out and about (though still a car title shy of accepting a settlement for the poor Mazda), almost over this cold that's been hanging over me for over a week, and ready to share some info for a good cause. I'm currently working for a company that the Atlanta police union (International Brotherhood of Police Officers, Local 623) hired to do fund-raising for community programs, starting with this year's Santa Cop program. Since 1999, IBPO 623 has taken underprivileged kids shopping for toys, gifts for loved ones, and other needed items...
... This year (as last year), the kids will be having breakfast at Mary Mac's Tea Room, and then will be taken shopping at Target (Atlantic Station) by uniformed officers. The date of this years event will be Wednesday, December 16th...
... So, why the need to share? Well, it's been difficult trying to get help for these kids these year, given the current economy; which in turn, means there are additional kids out there needing help more than ever before...
... In prior years, $250 a kid has been the typical expenditure, limiting it to like 2 or 3 dozen of them. This year, as part of the first stab at real fund-raising, we're trying to raise the bar, so that 100 deserving kids can have Christmas. We've only solicited from business thus far, but anyone can donate. Pass the word along, and if we can pick up a few $100, $50, or even $25 donations, it will hopefully add up. I can be reached at 404-654-0267, from at least 10am to 3pm, Monday through Friday, to answer any questions...
... If you also know of any kids that might be eligible to participate (ages 6 to 11, have not attended a prior Santa Cop event, economically disadvantaged), please let me know, and I'll pass on the information, since the kids have not yet been chosen...
