It's been awhile since I posted HIV news but first, on an unrelated note...Happy Birthday, Guayaquil!
Big HIV conference going on...here are some highlights.
"Free" HIV care not really free. Yup. Sounds very familiar.
Treatment news for infants. Also, another perspective on the same story.
More on kids and HIV.
The stuff with kids...I have very mixed, gut-level reactions to it. We spent some time learning about HIV-related encephalopathy and developmental delays (basically, in kids HIV is more likely to infect the central nervous system and cause a bunch of brain & developmental problems) at work and I was furiously taking notes while feeling sick to my stomach thinking about it. And hearing how much is left to be done and about all the risks and complications, it's overwhelming.
On the other hand...well, hearing about how bad things are, and how many kids don't make it more than a couple of years, I'm so amazed and so grateful for the ones who have.
