I went to Guayaquil's prison today. I'd been to the jails before, which are short-term holding places. The prison (there's one for the whole city) is a mix of long-term hardened criminals and a lot of cases in legal limbo. Talked to one kid who I've known since my first visit...he's been in prison for nearly two and a half years with no trial, no sentence.

I'd like to write more about it but I'm still processing. It's an ugly, ugly place.
