Catching up in the corn

Wow, I'm back to Illinois. A lot happened in the last week and I keep meaning to sit down and write about some of it. But first, check out my new friend. 15 cents a minute to Ecuador! A fellow Fulbrighter recommended it and I am a new fan.

It was a crazy last week in Ecuador. I was running around getting paperwork I needed to be able to come back and saying goodbyes all over town. Then on Sunday, I sprained my knee pretty badly. It hurt, so much I almost passed out just from the pain - literally seeing stars and everything. I was really scared I might have done serious damage (something like what nirvyone has been going through) but a week later it seems to be healing nicely. I can even climb stairs now, which is a good thing, since I'm now living in a 3rd floor walkup and moved in all my stuff yesterday. Anyhow, for my final 2 days, I couldn't exactly walk very well. When I left, the very friendly people in the Guayaquil airport strongly encouraged me to have a wheelchair in Miami, since I had a short connection time and couldn't walk very fast, plus I would have to lift my luggage and take it through customs, and I couldn't do that very well. So, I got a wheelchair in Miami, along with a wheelchair attendant who was quite possibly the devil. After having my poor knee bumped and bruised as she kept trying to push people out of the way by running into them, being told to stand up and walk, and being scolded for being in a wheelchair in the first place, I was told that "people in wheelchairs shouldn't have such big suitcases." Time for a little sensitivity training, American Airlines. Grrr.

Hmm, so that's the personal whining out of the way, and now I have to run to a meeting. Final ecuastories coming soon.
