Summary: The Doctor and Rory in the aftermath of 6x06.
Interlude
“Amy,” he cried out and fell to his knees. Rory stared at the white puddle of flesh that had been his wife and covered a sob with his hand. His brain numbly tried to work out what had happened.
The Doctor was next to him in an instant. “Rory, I am so so sorry,” he said and hesitantly rested a hand on the man’s shoulder.
After a moment, he registered the contact but couldn’t take his eyes off the spot where he’d last seen Amy. “Wh-where is my wife, Doctor?” Rory asked in shock. “Where is she?”
The Doctor placed his hands on either side of Rory’s face and stared hard at him. “Do you trust me, Rory Pond?”
Rory dragged his eyes away from the puddle and looked into the other man’s eyes. His mind flashed through all the adventures they had shared and all the things they had done. Every time the Doctor had saved him and Amy. “Yes,” he said, “of course.”
“Then listen to me and if you never have believed me before, then believe this. We are going to find Amy and we are going to bring her back. Your wife and your child. We will save them. I promise.”
“Okay,” Rory responded in a quiet voice. “So when she told you she was pregnant….”
“She really was. You’re going to be a dad.”
“A dad…. How long…?”
“I don’t know…sometime during our adventure with the Silence or even before.”
“I should have protected her, should have protected them both….”
Suddenly the Doctor kissed Rory’s forehead, “No, listen to me. This is not your fault. This is the moment in the fairy tale where the hero falls apart or stands strong. Stand strong for your family, Rory. Remember when you trusted Amy to save your life? Now she trusts you to save hers.”
“She’s scared, Doctor. I know that she’s terrified. I can feel it because…I’m terrified too.”
“She knows you are coming for her. She always knows.”
Rory looked up and nodded. “She’s waiting for both of us.”
“Good man.” The Doctor’s expression hardened, “Whoever took her has no idea who they’re dealing with, Roranicus Pondicus and The Oncoming Storm.”
“I’m…sorry?”
“I’ll explain later. Don’t worry, I have a plan.”
“And that plan is?”
“Complicated and far too long to explain. Trust me, I’m the Doctor. And I think, Rory, now is the time for you to don your Roman uniform.”
Rory drew in a deep breath and tried not to look at the puddle that had once been his wife. “That uniform is ridiculous.”
“But think how much Amy likes seeing you in it,” the Doctor countered. “She loves a Roman.”
“Okay,” Rory said as he struggled to his feet, “I suppose after two thousand years it’s almost like second nature to wear that thing.”
“Rory,” the Doctor stopped him, his face serious. “We will find them both, I promise.” He pressed a small object onto Rory’s palm. Rory closed his fist around it and walked out of the control room without looking at it.
Once he was out of sight, he slowly opened his hand and saw Amy’s wedding ring. Instantly he was filled with a fresh wave of sadness and strength. He stroked the band and remembered the long years waiting beside the Pandorica. Never had he expected to face something harder than those two thousand years.
He brought the ring to his lips and kissed it. “I’m coming for you, Amy. Hold on, I’m coming.”
Author's Notes: This little filler has been stuck in my brain ever since I saw 6x06. I have a theory about the ring. At the very end of 6x06, Amy isn't wearing it. So perhaps her ring was taken from her and given to her ganger. I don't know how important that is, but one of the humans in 6x05-06 had a ring on a necklace but his ganger didn't.
