It was almost their anniversary. Or at least, the anniversary of the day that they had first recognized their feelings for one another, even if it had taken a couple of months to completely realize exactly what this meant. As such, Yusuke wanted to give Ryou something special when that day arrived, something that showed how much he meant to him. He worked on it in the Park only because he wanted it to be a surprise when it was done.
He wasn't sure exactly when the idea had first come to him - probably when doing a little bit of research to find a stone suitable for the pen he had sent to the younger Yuuki Judai. But it had, which was why he had been working on it for the better part of the last month and a half.
Many sources had slightly different interpretations of the various properties of gemstones, but among its many other good qualities, Lapis Lazuli was a stone of protection, as well as one associated with love, and highly mystical in quality.
This, and its sparkling blue color, were what had caused him to ask for a piece of it, and he had been working ever since he received it from the Indigeo in order to polish it with his power - and, if he did it right, to allow it to absorb some of his power, to become a true stone of protection.
