Summary: Fay is hiding under a desk. Kurogane stumble upon him and feels oddly protective of the cat.

It was a hard struggle to get out of the house and find himself at the school, going off of memory and directions from plants that were of little use to him once he was out of range. He fell three or four times, hurting his knees and making the skin on his palms tear. Alarmingly so that temporarily seemed to soothe the deep ache he was feeling in his chest, an old kind of sorrow that should have expired months ago. Finally he made it to the school, where he wanted to be alone, hands leaving small drops of blood on the floor beneath him from the mild cuts on his palms. He groped along the walls until he found a classroom, and then helped himself inside ( ... )

Kurogane slowed his steps to a halt. There was a single drop of blood on the floor in front of him. For the first time today, the fluttery lightness he got from Fye was gone. It was fresh blood and as he continued on there was more of it. He detoured from the path to go get a new book to read and followed the trail. It wasn't an alarming amount of blood by any means, but that didn't mean much. It would be more then a paper cut and that was enough to make Kurogane frown. The blood on the wall helped him walk faster. Though he did think something along the lines of thank gods it's not a kid...It might be odd to see him worry about someone who had yet to be identified if one didn't know Kurogane well. However anyone who wasn't an idiot could pick out his protective streak. It only doubled when he heard something like crying up ahead. Here Kurogane started to really worry since he was not good with crying. Didn't change his plan though; see if the person wanted help, stop the bleeding, and get them somewhere where someone could actually ( ... )

The voice that suddenly pierced through his heart with a shard of ice made him jump, sobs coming to a halt, and he hit his head against the desk and let out a soft yelp in surprise. And then he began to tremble violently when the voice registered in his head, tears still steadily falling down his cheeks. It was Kurogane. He wasn't sure which one, but one was enough. He didn't want to be cornered by the one who had hurt him and he didn't want to be seen like this by the one he pretended to hate. He covered his face and shook his head, sorrow crashing down and replacing the shock that had pulled him out for a fraction of a second. And damn it he had come here to be alone ( ... )

The thud and yelp made Kurogane stop, a little sorry for startling the person under the desk. Though why someone would hide under a desk was something Kurogane started to think about. The second thud made Kurogane scowl and take another step forward, wanting to know what was going on now. The words made Kurogane's blood freeze. Or rather who was saying them. That was definitely the cat. Or was it Fai? And which part of the cat? It hurt to think that Fye would tell him to go away like that. A sharp pain stuck through his heart and made him draw closer to the other. Clearly the blond under the desk didn't know him well enough to think that Kurogane could walk away when someone he... had deep feelings for was crying and hurt. He was willing to risk it being Fai who'd probably just punch him in the face and then they could both get back to their lives. But if it was the cat ( ... )
