Characters: AU!Al Elric, AU!Manjoume Jun Where: The Plaza When: Mid-Afternoon Summery: Alice is drawing Circles in the plaza and Manjoume just wanders by. Warnings: Alchemy nerdiness.
Where was he going? If one were to ask Manjoume that question, he would glare at the asker, most likely, seeing as he didn't have an answer. It wasn't as though he was going anywhere by compulsion or anything (because if he were he wouldn't be consciously aware of the path he was taking, he told himself); he just needed to wander around for a little while and get some exercise.
As he walked, he happened past someone drawing circles on the ground. If it were most other things, he probably would have continued on his way, but something about some of those circles seemed somewhat familiar. Some of the symbols used, anyway - they weren't exactly alike, but he remembered seeing some of them mentioned in Alchemy class in his first year.
And thus, as a half-way subconscious action, he paused his walking, wondering just what the girl was doing.
Alice looked up from her drawing when she noticed someone pausing to watch her. "Oh, Hello." She said pleasantly before continuing to draw out some symbols and then erasing them again. She didn't like the way that this circle was turning out. Of course she was only using one hand since her other arm was still in a sling and she couldn't use it.
Manjoume nodded silently in greeting, watching the girl draw the circles a little while longer. He'd never seen all that much practical use for alchemy back in his own world - most of what Daitoukuji-sensei had shown the classes were either mostly basic chemistry experiments or blowing random things up in his face. (Then again, if certain things in that other Judai's world held true for his own, maybe he'd just been hiding real alchemy from his students in order to hide his intentions.) But if someone was attempting it here, maybe there was some use for it after all, at least in other worlds.
After a couple minutes, he decided that it couldn't hurt to do so and asked, "What are you doing?"
"Working on some transmutation circles." She said, not looking up from her work until she finished the circle off. It wasn't a very big one, but it had taken her a good amount of time in order to draw it out. She wasn't sure if it would work or not, but she wasn't going to try. At least, not here.
She wanted Ed here to try and bounce ideas off, but he wasn't, so she just sat down against the fountain and looked up at Manjoume. "These are just some experiments."
"If you don't mind my asking, what kind of experiments?" Manjoume asked. Even if it had never been his favorite subject, it was still something to talk about that would get him off of his usual trains of thought, which was always a welcome thing.
"Alchemy." She said, looking up at Manjoume. "I'm Alice Elric. In my world, I'm known as the FullMetal Alchemist." She gave him a friendly smile. "Alchemy is a major science where I come from."
"Manjoume Jun," he introduced himself in turn, as was only polite. His own expression didn't change from its usual not-a-smile, though it held little to no irritation at the moment. "There's alchemy back where I come from, or at least something that calls itself that, but I've never seen it used for anything other than small tricks and causing small explosions."
"Alchemy can do so much in my world. Colonel Roy Mustang is known as the Flame Alchemist and can create flames and bombs using alchemy." She looked at her experimental circle and then erased it. She had sketches back in her apartment. She then drew a smaller circle and concentrated as she placed her hand on the edge of it. A crackle of blue energy later and a small stone replica of a suit of armor was created in the middle of the circle.
She looked a bit sad as she looked at the armor. It was the same armor that she had bound her brother to.
...Well. It wasn't as though Manjoume didn't expect it to work at all. Even in his own world, various variations on magic existed, after all. But that still didn't mean that he'd ever seen anything like that before. And if what Daitoukuji-sensei had taught could, in other worlds, be used like that...
"That's... impressive," he managed to come up with a proper word for it.
He decided not to ask about Alice's comment about her brother, at least for now. Siblings could be difficult to talk about, especially when bad things had happened to them. And though he couldn't guarentee that he would be all that bothered if something were to happen to his own older brothers, he'd certainly seen it before.
She smiled a little bit up at Manjoume. "This is just something small. I've been able to do things like this since I was a kid. Well, smaller things together with my brother Ed." They had learned alchemy at a young age and it took a special kind of person to be able to do alchemy like she did at this age.
"Small or not," Manjoume replied, already managing to find his composure once again, "it's still impressive. No one can do anything like that, where I come from." At least, not that he knew of, anyway.
"Small things like this are rather common in my world." She said, looking at the Suit of Armor. She really missed her brother and how they had gone traveling together, searching for a way to turn their bodies back to normal.

"Brother..." She said softly.
